The Oakland A’s seem to think that Sean Murphy is the second coming of Mike Piazza or Ivan Rodriguez because they are surely asking for a lot for a career .236 hitter. Murphy is someone who can help a lot of clubs, but his age and lack of experience are working against him. He’s already 28, which is pretty old for a catcher, he’s only played one full season as a real starter, and is one of the least consistent hitters on the A’s.

Karinchak for Jansen?

If that is all that it takes ... I would seriously consider it. However, it would have been nice to know that before the Vargas trade. We are a bit short on relief pitchers (see what happens at 5 though). We would probably also need to keep Plesac to start Morris in pen. And, it is probably going to take more and with now Bell, that DH/1B role is full where Jansen could have taken some extra at-bats

I still believe that Bo Naylor is our C going forward and I'm fine with that. He's impressed them defensively and can he do any worse offensively than what we had? The answer is no and he stands a very likely chance to significantly improve the lineup from the C position. Might as well brace yourselves for a Hedge Hog reunion.

In all reality the 2 black holes in the lineup can easily be improved upon with what is currently available from within. Bo is your C and Brennan is your CFer. They added some thump with Bell. We'll have OGon from the start. The short term fix we need now is a SS. Rosario is an average player, I'm not sold on Arias and Rocchio isn't quite ready. What might have to happen is Gimenez moving to SS and one of Freeman/Miller takes over 2B until someone forces their way in.

Putting Hankins in the same group with Espino and Valera is curious.
Not really. I remember Bimbo stating that some in the organization thought as highly of Hankins as they did of Espino. I can't say if I agree or disagree with that, but there is no question that he is a big arm. We'll get to see how he does now that he is past his TJS.

Especially as a trade piece when he can be (and likely will not be) claimed in R5. lol.

He's more than a few tiers down from Valera, and Valera is probably in the Bibee/Rocchio tier, one or two down from Espino and below Williams.

I don't know Pete. They seem to find a good BP every year. Last year it was DLS. They've added Herrin and Miko is in Columbus. They might be able to nab a shutdown reliever with Rosario too.

No, I don't think he is in the eyes of Cleveland's staff. He's a premier arm and was one of our best SP prospects prior to the injury.

Hankins wasn't selected - we lost RPs Nick Enright and Kevin Kelly though.
