No, I don't think he is in the eyes of Cleveland's staff. He's a premier arm and was one of our best SP prospects prior to the injury.
If they really valued him that highly, he would be protected. Do you think you'd risk losing him in R5 just to keep Richie Palacios?

He could be very good, but as with most SPs who have yet to develop and are injured already at a young age, the chance of him reaching that "ceiling" is extremely low.

I think they know that he was very likely to go unselected. He missed the 2020 season then had TJS.

I don't agree with your assessment of Hankins. I mean what do you base it off of? He hasn't been able to pitch because of the most common injury to pitchers that has an extremely high success rate of recovery. Some patience is in order here and he didn't lose his ability. He just lost time developing it.

Edited to say that I expect him to progress rapidly and he may be a BP option soon and they'll concern themselves with building his IP over the next 2 yrs.

I am high on Hankins, but weary until I see him in action.

The Rule 5 draft is OVER.

Hankins was NOT selected... Battenfield wasn't either.
I'm aware of that, but thanks. I was surprised and pleased to see so many teams that had full rosters and unable to pick. Ramifications of the pandemic I would say.

Only a few teams (4 I think) had full rosters. Plenty of opportunity for a team to take Hankins or Battenfield which as we know didn't happen.

I figured we'd lose at least one of them (Hankins) myself, but instead we lose a couple fringy relievers.

I know, I was surprised to see that too. Gotta say that I'm pretty damn happy neither got chosen. With the selections of Kelly and Enright it makes me wonder if this is one of the reasons Cleveland keeps their lips together when talking about their prospects.

There were 15 teams that passed. That helped.

Kinda surprised the Cubs passed.

Can't blame you for being weary. I don't really have any expectations, but you cannot deny his potential. That's why you and a lot of others(including me) are "high" on him.

I commented on this in Rule 5 ... the issue is there are a lot of middle tier FAs left that will take those spots versus trying to hold onto Rule 5 guy. And, this year the number of spots in the top-17/18 were 1/2 as many as there were back in 2020 for last Rule 5 draft. So am surprised 14 went when 18 went in 2021 but a lot fewer spaces (expect a few to be returned before ST if team finds a FA they like better like Tampa).
