Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think coaches can put together an offense that Baker can succeed in but it usually doesn't line up with what most NFL coaches want to run. On top of that, I don't think it's what Baker wants to run. I think Baker pushes to add more and the coaches give in because it's ultimately what they want too.

The reason why I thought it would be good for Baker to go to the 49ers is because Kyle Shanahan likes to be a running team. Having a coach that rather run the ball or put together plays to try to set up yards after the catch, is really what Baker should be in.

See, I think this is ultimately the catch 22 with Baker. The Browns were always a running team with Baker without question. That’s the offense the Browns and the Panthers generally wanted to run, but he’s not accurate enough in the short to intermediate routes to actually make it work. I always thought that was the major problem of him in Carolina as so much of their offense was McCarthy catching a high volume of passes on short screens, flats, outs, and crossing routes that Baker always got batted down or couldn’t complete. If Cooper Kupp wasn’t injured, he’d absolutely lose his shit playing with Baker.

We were trying to attack a lot of the similar areas of the field in Cleveland, and when it worked we went to the playoffs. The reason the offense has generally looked better this year is because those are the types of throws Brissett was really good at.

Baker basically needs to be running the type of offense they ran at Oklahoma, but his decision making and accuracy just isn’t good enough to play that way in the pros.

I do agree that Baker struggles with the short passes and it's a flaw that's hard to overcome for most NFL coaches. Shanahan has so many running concepts to his offense, I do think they could overcome that flaw in Baker's game. 49ers offense and Shanahan would probably be as good as it gets for Baker to succeed. They would ultimately want to move on from Baker because of his flaws though since it would limit their offense.

I think at this point in Baker's career he just has to hope that he can become at stop gap QB that he can hold down the job for a couple seasons. He plays well in these last games with the Rams and he will get his chance to take over for Stafford if Stafford has hit the age wall. My thinking was the same with the 49ers, he would take Garoppolo's role until Trey Lance is actually ready or they find someone else they think can take their offense to the next level. Garoppolo probably get offers to be more than a stop gap this summer and moves on from the 49ers.

If a hot dog is a sandwich then what do you call a hot dog without the bun?

You call it "a hot dog without the bun." It's right there in your post. Because just saying "hot dog" includes the bread on both sides, making it....

A sandwich

Have you ever said, "I'm going to make a sandwich" or "I'm going to grab a sandwich" and come back with a hotdog? Didn't think so. Game. Set. Checkmate.

Yes, as a matter of fact. Why just last night I said to my wife, "I'm going to go make myself a sandwich", and came back with a Nathan's with some Bertman's on it.

Delicious sandwich.

You guys need to put in the work on this.

It probably shouldn’t be a sandwich, but it fits established definitions.

Arent sandwiches between *2* pieces of bread? A hot dog is 1 piece of bread with a hinge.

As @Benway said, it's really an open-faced sandwich.

Like a pizza, which is just a particular kind of Italian open-faced sandwich.

Is pie a sandwich?
