Game Thread | Knicks playoff series Game #1 | Knicks @ Cavs | April 15, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Those aren’t tough shots. Cedi is slow as shit and has minimal lateral movement.

Any coach with a brain would’ve known not to try that BS. The only
Hope you had of that matchup working was Brunson settling for stepback 3s which he didnt.

We are 82 games into the season and JBB still doesn’t realize that in a pinch Okoro and Stevens are his PG stoppers. I mean damn, Caris Lavert probably gets 1 or 2 more stops against Brunson 1 on 1
WTF are you talking about? Cedi defended Brunson better than LeVert. Brunson got his shot off against anybody and everybody we put on him, including Okoro. He just didn't score much in the first half because he was sitting with foul trouble. Cedi bothered Brunson and got some misses, problem was the Knicks got the rebound every time and Brunson scored on the 2nd chances.

I just rewatched the Hart 3 which is where it all went wrong.

I don’t know what the fuck Osman was doing on that play quite frankly. And having him in there for big fourth quarter possessions with these kind of lapses…Okoro would have never let this happen.

I’ll recap it:

Randle caught the ball with about 10 seconds on the far right wing. 18+ feet from the basket. Mobley had mostly single-handedly shut his water off after the first half.

Anyways, Cedi got caught in no man’s land on a off ball screen by Hart to get Mitchell onto Brunson. Cedi decided to dig down at Randle for a week double team. Randle had two options open in the corner and to Hart for threes. He looked to Pass and Garland read the corner lane and sprinted from his initial rotation to Hart to guard the corner. Hart was wide open, but Randle did a Randle panic thing and dumped it to Hartenstein in the middle of the floor even though Cedi was remarkably still out of position. Finally after almost 4-5 seconds Cedi thrns arojnd aftwr I believe Darius screamed the switch to the corner shooter out to him and he realizes Garland rotated for him so he finally recovers to Hart as Hartenstein throws the ball out to him.

Hart had about 4-5 seconds left to shoot, and Cedi inexplicably backs up obviously not knowing the clock situation as Hart goes into his cross over pull-up move, he almost totally slips, and Hart hesitates for a second…like in a “what the fuck is Turkey doin right now? Is he trying to Jedi mind trick me? He knows I got the ball right? He thinks imma just miss or somethin? Anyway, I gotta shoot now” moment and Cedi freezes until he finally realizes Hart is indeed about to pull up with it from deep, and then takes a pretty weak closeout that clearly bothered Hart none. Hart drains it.

It’s really bad to watch over and over again for mental health purposes. In case anyone was wondering which is why I described it.

I’m not sure why Cedi doubled Randle. I would have loved a Randle 17 footer keeping him away from the glass and with Mobley draped all over him. Like that was exactly what I wanted. And he was going to shoot it until Cedi flew in to double. Even if he hits it, we’re down 1 not 2.

So yeah, Cedis defensive lapse almost certainly contributed to our loss in a major way.

If you think Wade provides no defense you simply don’t know what you are watching
I beg to differ. Dude plays with no passion. If staying on someone’s hip while they still score the basket is your idea of defense then you win. He doesn’t ball contest, he doesn’t have quick hands, rarely blocks a shot and looks lost most plays. His negative skills shows in the stats too. He doesn’t even look like he wants to be out there. He has absolutely zero trade value so it looks like we are stuck with him another year.

Last week 15 month old grandson was sitting & peeing on the pot, then ran around nekkid, went into his mom’s closet, squatted and took a dump right there.

Shit happened.

have you seen him in Miami since he left?
I thought he might turn it around, but Miami got the same post-injury Kevin the Cavs got this season....
Love played pretty well when Miami beat the Bulls last night.

You have no understanding of the game of basketball.
Ppl think Wade needs to score 15 ppg to be effective.

Really he just needs to defend and space the floor. When we run PnR and the ball goes down to Mobley and Allen, all our SF WHOEVER it is, needs to do is shoot and make at least 35%. They don’t even gotta go above 50%. The Knicks called our SF bluff today and flat out didn’t guard the 3. This explains why Garland had so much trouble.

Okoro flat out refused to shoot which usually I’d hate but he was so ass today it actually helped the team.

This series is just a bad matchup across the board. And the way Thibbs did it, can probably be replicated by most playoff teams left. Turn every game into a “Mitchell must score 50 for Cleveland to have a chance” and we may very well lose this thing in 5.

Lack of big man depth was really apparent here, Knicks have a lot of bigs they can throw at us and wear our guys down. Allen played 43 mins, Mobley, 38, these guys were gassed. Dean probably needs to play, he can help on the glass, but if he's a zero on offense it's gonna be tough.
How would we know if he’s a zero on offense? He launched his first 3 of his playoff career into orbit, (not all that surprising) could have taken another but chose to pass to Rubio who blew the layup, then drove past Randle and made both free throws. Then sat. 7 minutes in one stint when the whole team was jittery. Who knows if he can contribute?

Osman was getting torched bro.

On TV some of his contests looked great but Osman was too slow to really bother those midranges. I used to do the same shit when i played guys taller. Short players like Brunson are used to having hands in their face. Only like 1 of Brunson’s jumpers were what i would call heavily contested. Osman was close to the others but he did not get good contests that actually affected Brunson.

If Osman was doing good the Knicks wouldn’t have run the same play for 10 straight minutes. Osman was getting OWNED

One miss and your adios. JB the confidence builder.

Cedi played as good of d as he could’ve, but Brunson to miss a couple of times.

Allen and Mobley accounted for 25 rebounds. The entire rest of the team got 13 combined. Most of the offensive rebounds the Knicks got either came from long rebounds that went over the heads of the interior guys, or from the knicks backcourt players crashing the boards and stealing the ball from Allen when he came down with the ball. The rebounding problem wasn't on Evan and JA. We need to do a better job of team rebounding, team boxing out, and getting to 50/50 balls.

Does anyone think we’ll be fine, or we just aren’t ready to win a playoff series?

I was screaming at my TV for Cedi to press up. He clearly didn’t know the shot clock because i refuse to believe he thought backing up a foot off a career 3 point shooter was smart.

Some of the calls in the first half was just bullshit and some in the second but then the Cavs couldn’t rebound for shit it was just a momentum killer. Knicks on some possessions were having 3 or 4 tries and that’s just pathetic tbh. Hopefully they fix that shit in game 2 or it will be a quick series

We’ll be fine

Being up 1 in that game in the 4th should’ve never happened and i know Thibbs is ripping his team for it.

Lost to a worst team all because we didn’t want to battle on the boards.

I hate to go hindsight but i think Lamar z Steven’s scraps us 2-3 more possessions than in this game if he plays.
