To me it was never about Mitchell. It was how good the Cavs could be. And why Koby pulled the trigger.
I don't want to get in it too much, because I know it's been talked about a lot, and it just makes me too angry.
I think it was one of those very risky trades, and it badly backfired.
I'd make more sense to make this trade, when we had a better idea what we had. We had NO CLUE what we had.
Just because Garland had one good year, and Mobley, at least looked good in his rookie year? Koby went in prematurely, thinking we can win a title with Mitchell going forward with this unit.
He gambled on the upside of the current core, and lost.
In hindsight, it was a total disaster.
At the time, it was just a total risk. Too premature.. Everything mattered on how good Garland and Mobley would be.
We thought at least all-stars. We thought or hoped Mobley, superstar. If both those things were true, the trade looks different. Still way too much, but different.
It didn't turn out that way.
Now it's a disaster.
Garland has regressed. He's gotten WORSE. Mobley is not blossoming into a superstar. He's just right now a really good player. A role player, that's it.
