2023-24 Season | Game #60 | Knicks @ Cavs | March 3, 2024 | 7:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This sucked to write.

  • Problem with the fourth quarter was a couple things: One, for every play the Cavs made the Knicks came right back to make an equalizer. Credit goes to the Knicks for stepping up, but the Cavs were unable to stack a run together to push them over the top. Two, the crunch time offense.
  • To part one, Josh Hart somehow hit a side-step three-pointer over Mobley’s outstretched hand from the dead corner to put the Knicks up six with 96 seconds left. Miles McBride hit the dagger with 33 seconds left after playing 47 minutes on the night.
  • To part two, the Cavs scored two points the final four minutes and forty seconds of the game. Almost five minutes in a game where they needed to score. The Knicks were without their four best players and two of their guys playing 45+ minutes with another nearly 40 minutes.

There’s about 20-25 players in the NBA without flaws and with few limits

Jesus.

You’re talking about the dude like he’s trash.
Or like he had ten turnovers

He had two without Mitchell and LeVert, meaning in 40 minutes he was the sole playmaker

Darius Garland has not been the issue or even in the list of top 5 things wrong with the past three games.
It's easy to point to the low number of turnovers or good 3pt shooting and give him a pass, my issues are as follows

1) Zero ability to finish at the rim
2) Zero ability to draw FTs
3) Passes that result in a difficult shot in traffic
4) Bad passes at big guys feet
5) Bad passes that are corralled by a teammate only to be put in a bad position
6) Inability to handle a double team
7) Inability to work within tight spaces
8) Inability to truly cause a defense to collapse on you
9) Beat his man off the dribble and not pull up pr fade, but get to the hoop

I could to on but I'm dealing with an infant who won't sleep. When you factor all of these things in, how much better is Darius Garland today than he was two years ago? He gets easily rattled and falls back on bad habits. To me, Darius looks like a guy who knows enough about basketball to be good, but not enough to be better. I personally do not think he's spends any time in the gym outside of required workout times. He went from an up and coming PG people were excited about to being passed up by 10-15 young guards.

Hes expendable. Let's just hope people don't realize that before we can move him.

Dean Wade and George’s Niang went 0/10.

But the narrative is that it’s JBB, Garland and Mobley who are at fault.

My favorite comment of the night was that we should start Merrill going forward.
People , including myself, are deservedly looking for solutions and reasons why the Cavs got trounced by a Knicks team without 4 starters that had lost 8 out of 12. Something is wrong. Do I think it’s solely JBB? Of course not, but he could do a better job with his players, with ATOs, with game plans against the Knicks (and others) for starters, and in-game adjustments. Would I be happy to see him go? Sure. Because I would LOVE to see what a new set of eyes and a new voice would do with the current roster construction. Would we improve? Who knows but I don’t think we’d have a lot to lose.

As far as Mobley, I’ve never singled him out (and I realize your post wasn’t directed at me); he has some fabulous games; do I wish he were stronger and had a better jumper , sure ? But he’s young and I’ve seen plenty of improvement.

JA has been a stalwart for us for most of the season, especially without Mobley and DG and JBB has staggered his minutes with Evan on occasion. For whatever reason, these last few games haven’t been his best (offensively and defensively)and that’s being kind.

Niang should solely be used when he immediately hits a shot or two due to his defensive shortcomings; Caris can be hot and cold as well but contributes in so many other ways that I think he can play regardless of being hot. Not the case with Georges.

DG has been a problem somewhat however, IN MY OPINION. Finally, he’s being more aggressive with and also making his 3 point shots; however, his shot isn’t really a jumper (more of a set shot) and he needs time and space to get it off due to his size. My biggest complaints and concerns have been and continue to be his inability to drive to the basket anymore (every shot is blocked or a turnover ), his constant pounding the basketball , his walking the ball up the court and slowing our pace of play and his defense which again is limited by his size.

Again, in my opinion, both Merril and CPJ should be utilized more and more consistently.

Strus can be hot and cold but like I’ve said earlier, he shows up to work every day, plays tough defense and is a solid passer even when his shot is off.

Okoro’s improvement on the offensive end has been nothing short of miraculous and coupled with his open court play and defensive toughness and ability makes him invaluable both now and moving forward

Niang only had 11 minutes a couple of games ago and 15 tonight. When TT gets back he might see a further reduction.
I didn’t bring up Niang, you did as being one of the main reasons that we lost along with Dean Wade. So it’s one way or the other …either despite his mere 15 minutes of play he was a contributing factor in the loss or….despite his dreadful shooting and defensive play , he only played 15 minutes and can’t be held accountable

WOOF.

What’s our record without Mitchell?

Besides Garland, I worry about Mobley, too. To be elite, he’s going to need better coaching and strength-training. Now’s the time. He needs to spend an entire summer or more with Duncan or Hakeem, to maximize his potential. Making a deep run in the playoffs depends on it.

You know what play pissed me off the most in this game? Niang fouling on a made 3 RIGHT after the Cavs brought the game within 4 points.

It was thankfully undone by a 3 on the next possession. But ....
