2023-24 Season | Game #60 | Knicks @ Cavs | March 3, 2024 | 7:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Knicks can lose their field general and they have players like Hart, DiVincenzo, Bogdanovic, and even McBride who relish the challenge and step up. We lose Mitchell and there's nobody to step up. Garland isn't that guy, neither are Allen, Mobley, Okoro, or Strus. Those guys are all planets who need a sun. They can't create their own shots.

Mitchell is the sun, and when there's no sun there's no light. And don't underestimate the loss of LeVert. He had 15 assists against Chicago. We really needed those 15 assists tonight.
Yea you could really see the struggle with shot creation tonight. Can’t have one guy on the whole team that creates shots for himself and others (Garland tonight). It’s like I said last week. We don’t have one shot creator on this team outside of our guards (Garland, Mitchell, and LeVertt)

garland can get better, he just needs to go back to being aggressive:

His inability to do anything at the rim is a huge concern right now. He drives the paint and gets so hesitant. It's either a bad turnover or a weak attempt that gets easily swatted. What happened to the floater? Just because you can't go in there and dunk on guys doesn't mean you can't drive hard and get to the foul line.

I believe this is the key right here, There is no reason for him to go driving into the trees when he can use the floater.

Allen and Mobley also tied for the team lead in assists..

Some might say it says more about Garland but the fact the two aren't utilized more as on-ball playmakers is beyond questionable..

Has Strus missed a game yet this season?
Whether he has or not, I can appreciate the toughness and consistency he plays with each and every game even if his shot hasn't been as consistent as it should be..

I know they brought in Niang and Strus for playoff experience and some grit, and right now Strus is holding up more of the bargain than Niang is..

This team needs to see how they fare in the postseason and then make smart and necesssry coaching and personnel adjustments after that.
The problem is… we already saw it last year and they didn’t have the balls to do what needed done. They made VERY few adjustments and now we’re staring down the barrel of an implosion because of the team’s refusal to bring in a competent coach or to make a bold move that would have given us a cohesive core.

I wouldn't trade Garland, he's one of the players I consider untouchable.
Untouchable?! The guy isn’t even going to be a highly sought asset around league circles anymore!

He already peaked and sadly, his bad habits have become part of his DNA at this point. He’s not a winning player and he never will be.

Peaked at 22, finished at 24.

He’s had major facial injuries the past two seasons and Don’s arrival has significantly altered how he can play.

He might be better off elsewhere but it’s a bit premature to write him off.

Unless he can somehow upgrade his brain and enhance his low basketball IQ, he’s always going to be a flawed, limited player.

This years playoffs haven’t happened yet

It’s not putting the same VHS tape in the VCR year one year later

When the playoffs arrive, things will happen as they do.

It could look like last year.
It could not

Pretending that the good and bad trendlines from this years regular season meaning a positive or negative outcome with certainty in the playoffs is a fools game.

It’s informative and certainly gives people reason to form opinions, but until it happens it’s all talk. In every direction.

I'll stand on that trade being made thinking Mobley would be an unicorn. Banking on his talent transcending like the Duncan/KGlite he was promised.

There’s about 20-25 players in the NBA without flaws and with few limits

Jesus.

You’re talking about the dude like he’s trash.
Or like he had ten turnovers

He had two without Mitchell and LeVert, meaning in 40 minutes he was the sole playmaker

Darius Garland has not been the issue or even in the list of top 5 things wrong with the past three games.

This sucked to write.

  • Problem with the fourth quarter was a couple things: One, for every play the Cavs made the Knicks came right back to make an equalizer. Credit goes to the Knicks for stepping up, but the Cavs were unable to stack a run together to push them over the top. Two, the crunch time offense.
  • To part one, Josh Hart somehow hit a side-step three-pointer over Mobley’s outstretched hand from the dead corner to put the Knicks up six with 96 seconds left. Miles McBride hit the dagger with 33 seconds left after playing 47 minutes on the night.
  • To part two, the Cavs scored two points the final four minutes and forty seconds of the game. Almost five minutes in a game where they needed to score. The Knicks were without their four best players and two of their guys playing 45+ minutes with another nearly 40 minutes.
