Mobley had 8 rebounds in the second half which was double the next guy FWIW..

However, he only had 6 second half points and two in the fourth..

The Cavs needed someone else to step up and it was the perfect opportunity for Mobley to do so in that second half, especially 4th quarter..
To see the Knicks being able to get away with having Josh Hart guard him is very telling. He just doesn’t create mismatches like he should at his size.
I hate seeing this because I’m a huge Mobley fan, but I’m not seeing the leap. Yes he’s improved but for the makeup of this team. His improvement doesn’t do enough to elevate the team because it doesn’t improve upon the teams biggest flaws.

Physicality and shot creation (outside of Vert, Mitchell, and Garland).

How does he "step up"

How does he "step up"
Abusing the 6’5 Josh Hart who was guarding him down the stretch.
At least doing so to the point they feel the need to double team.

Totally dominating Sims (45) in his 3rd qtr and start of the 4th qtr minutes.

That's kind of my point

He can't

When 90% of your offense is finishing plays created by other players, how do you "step up"

I wasn’t saying you were wrong.
Just pointing out what had me seething.
I was a huge Evan supporter but I just don’t see start player anymore.

Also, is it just me or is Mobley not even that good defensively anymore? He’s a far cry from his DPOY-like season last year.
He’s a lot more susceptible to pump fakes this year. My total speculation thought for this is he’s chasing blocks for stats to strengthen his defensive player of the votes. (Before the injury I noticed this)

Love or hate it, he is our franchise player going forward. Time to kick the training wheels off

His defensive rebounding is up 2.5 per 100 possessions over last year; his steals and blocks are up per 100 possessions, and overall; his DRTG is lower than last year; his defensive box plus-minus is already higher in 36 games than 79 games and 69 games the last two years; and Cavs are 2.2 points better defensively per 100 possessions with him on the court..

By all the numbers, he's actually been better..

For the season he's making 76% of his shots at the rim, 38% from short-midrange (4-14 feet), and 33% from the long mid-range (9-for-27). He's 4-for-17 on corner 3's and 7-for-15 on non-corner 3's.

So the only shots he's good at are at the rim or non-corner 3's.

In 36 games he's made 45 short mid-range shots, 9 long mid-range shots, and 11 three-pointers. IOW, the low shooting percentages tell only part of the story. He's averaging less then one made 3-pointer every three games. And barely less than two mid-range makes per game. Add it up and he's averaging less than two field goals per game NOT at the rim.

He needs Mitchell, Garland, Strus, and LeVert to break down the defense and get him the ball at the rim. Sometimes he contributes by setting the screen and rolling, getting a pass and finishing. He should get better at that as his career progresses.

Whether he'll even be able to consistently make 6-10 foot fallaways when his path to the rim is blocked is questionable. He has no push shot, no jump hook, and his touch and accuracy on short jump shots is abysmal. I'm sure he'll work hard on it in the off-season. He might be one of those guys who takes a step every year and keeps improving gradually. But I doubt he ever becomes his own shot creator like Durant or Giannis.

It’s ironic to see so many posters on here mimicking the same criticisms of Mobley that I was pointing out all along. Trust me, I’m not happy to see our future franchise player be so mediocre.

I’ve always had high expectations of the kid. However, we are now at the end of year 3 and he is frankly…a disappointment.

he is averaging like…15 fucking ppg. And all of his points are set up by others. He’s just not good offensively. And let’s be objective for a moment…offense is probably 75% of what comprises a superstar player. Hell, his defense isn’t even other worldly anymore if you ask me.

All in all- I don’t think he’s bad per se, but I’m just disappointed. I seriously think…provided we don’t make any noise in the playoffs…we should consider moving him while his value is sky high. In my estimation…1 more year like this and his trade value plummets. We could probably get an all star level talent for him. I shit you not.
