2024 Guardians Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Fry needs to be the one giving Bo days off as well as others. His bat needs to be in the lineup as often as possible. At this stage of the teams development I just don't see the need for Hedges with Bieber out. I'm not saying the Hedge Hog doesn't have value, but we need to get Bo and Fry reps IMO.

The same argument can be made for Laureano. Nice player, but with 1 yr remaining and a bunch of kids needing opportunities behind him.

Florial needs to be given regular opportunities to see if he'll continue to post better AB. He also needs to be in the OF, preferably CF.

Arias needs to be given more AB for the same reasons as Florial. The defense is clearly better at SS when he's there, but his versatility is useful and he doesn't have to hinder Rocchio's opportunity because of it.

I'd be exploring what teams would give for Clase. If I could get a couple of young, talented and ready SP then I'd seriously consider it. The BP is loaded with guys and we haven't even seen Aleman and Walters yet. Espino will be back next year and is likely going to be a BP arm initially at least. Gaddis looks like a damn stud. Herrin and Hentges are a helluva LHRP pair.

Just my $.02 if it's even worth that.
You sure about Espino coming back next season if ever?

Crazy series when the two most maligned position players on the team are all of a sudden pushing the starters for more PT.

Let’s see how Arias and Florial keep it up in the next series or two, but Brennan/Rocchio/Freeman haven’t justified enough at this point to have a complete lock on the starting roles. Not sure if there’s a complete right answer and ping ponging is a good way for everyone to lose confidence, so this is one of those things I’ll trust the staff to make the right call.

I think we should pump the brakes a little on Florial. I'm glad he had the 2 HR's this weekend against the Yankees. But 10 SO in 21 AB gives reason to pause.
You could say he needs to start in the OF 3-4 times a week. But we're playing to win the games. Those long balls could be few and far between all those strike outs.

I don't know about Florial but IMO Arias deserves a good 5-6 week trial. He should get regular time between SS, 3B, and RF. Laureano should have the short straw for now. Arias just missed a second home run today.

I'm not sure about anything. All I know is that he is scheduled to comeback next season and I'm assuming him coming back as a SP is out of the question. At least initially.

Most of these high strikeout power guys are streaky. Maybe this is the time to ride Florial to see if he can be Franmil Reyes with an ability to play a position.

I would imagine his latest injury is close to career altering as it gets. I'm not penciling him in as starter anytime soon. He has a ton to overcome.

That and I would think reaping the benefits of his abilities asap is where they stand with him. Can't deny that it might be what's best for Daniel and the Guardians organization.

A back end of bullpen with Clase and Espino could be special. Question is how many of our other guys can actually perform (Stephan, Hentges, can Gaddis continue his stuff?)

I'm not really worried about the future of this bullpen. There might be a few rough stretches with all the injuries but beyond that we should be fine. We've also found that failed starters often make for better relievers than relievers. Really, all relievers are failed starters, some just make it to the MLB level as starters first like Gaddis, Stephan, and Hentges.

I'm not worried about it either and I wasn't worried about it coming into this season. I think they need to seriously consider what they need and what they can afford to part with to get what they need.

Weird slashline of the week (and congrats to Florial for the B2B weekly winner)

.190 BA / .891 OPS!

I feel like we need to move on from one of Florial and Laureano....

Moving on from one of them, would create more ABs for someone else and we could fill in the spot on the roster with Schneeman (Aka I'd rather have a guy like him rather than a young guy who needs ABs).

Laureano is kind of a RH bat we need on paper, but at the same time, he's gone after this season and we have guys like Fry, Arias, Noel or J Rodriquez that I want to see get more ABs...

Florial, Brennan and Kwan can all play CF without issues... Fry can do either corner and Arias will do right. Schneeman is my call up since he can play most positions on the diamond.

Kwan, Gimenez, Josh Naylor and JRam get a DH spot weekly... Giving Florial, Fry and Arias starts... Bo Naylor gets 4 catching starts weekly... Giving 1 to Hedges weekly and 2 to Fry weekly... Fry and Bo then both get a DH start. Arias gets 2-3 SS starts with Rocchio getting 4-5 starts at SS... Freeman gets 5 CF starts weekly and Florial gets 2... Then we still have RF ABs and DH ABs available... Brennan gets most of RF starts 4-5 then 1-2 to Arias with Schneeman getting what's left?

Everyone would be getting 4-5 starts a week, IF not named Kwan, Gimenez, JRam or J Naylor... Schneeman would mix in and get like 3... Hedges would get his 1...

I like this plan better since everyone is getting reps and the guys getting reps all have long term team control outside of Naylor...

I just don't want Johnathan Rodriguez up IF he's not getting the main playing time ya know? Plus the end of the bench being straight dirty bag style of team players, is perfect for a young team...

It makes no sense to move on from Laureano because he is our only RHB OF aside from Freeman who is still new there, and has good historical stats against LHP. Florial has no options. I don't like the way it sounds cause I actually think he will be pretty good but if we needed to make room it'd be easiest to option Brennan.

# of Options Remaining:
Brennan - 3
Laureano - 2
Arias/Freeman/Rocchio - 1
Florial - 0
