2024 Guardians Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Last year and this year combined, Will Brennan has 123 hits. 94 of them are singles.

Over 76% of all of his hits are singles.
I remember when he was talked about as a 20 HR guy. I mean he does probably have the power to do it but the way he hits doesn't really lend itself to those kind of results.

You'd think Brennan has 20HR power when you look at the guy.

Arias needs everyday playing time. Not quite ready to shakeup the OF because Florial's success at the plate looks highly dubious and Ramon has the much more proven track record of hitting lefties. Freeman needs more than two weeks of everyday AB's too.

The Guardians trailed at least 3-0 in each of the final five games of their homestand. They pulled out wins in two of them, both in 10 innings. In only one game were they decidedly defeated. - The Athletic

In one of the games they lost they were down 5-0 and came back to tie. Like the players said, "We never quit". But the starting pitching really needs to improve, especially in the first inning.

The bullpen has a chance to be really special this year as they lead the majors in WAR and ERA after 15 games and that's with Hentges out. Did you see Gaddis strike out Judge with a nasty slider at the knees after getting two strikes on him with 97 and 99 mph fastballs? Crazy.

That's how I rolled in little league, baby
With those two hacks, Florial boosted his wRC+ to 154 (meaning he’s been 54 percent more productive than the league-average hitter this season). Let’s toast to tiny, early-season sample sizes. Florial has totaled only 25 plate appearances. He’s had four walks, 10 strikeouts and those two homers, an apt demonstration of his skills and deficiencies.

“He makes really good swing decisions,” Vogt said. “He does punch out, but … there’s a big reason why he’s with us: the quality of his at-bats.”...

This team desperately needs someone other than Steven Kwan to emerge in the outfield. Tyler Freeman and Will Brennan are off to rough starts. Aside from some walks and wielding a rocket arm, Ramón Laureano hasn’t offered much yet. There’s ample opportunity for someone to get in a rhythm and seize regular playing time. Maybe Florial will be the one.

“The swings have been better and better,” Vogt said. - The Athletic

Who decides the positioning of the strike zone box on the TV broadcasts? The upper end looks too low per the rules.

The Official Baseball Rules define the strike zone as “that area over home plate the upper limit of which is a horizontal line at the midpoint between the top of the shoulders and the top of the uniform pants, and the lower level is a line at the hollow beneath the kneecap.”

The top line is essentially at the belt line. Also, the box seems to be the exact same size whether the batter is 5'8" or 6'4".

If they ever do go to an automated strike zone system, I would think defining the box will be a subject of much debate.

It makes no sense to move on from Laureano because he is our only RHB OF aside from Freeman who is still new there, and has good historical stats against LHP. Florial has no options. I don't like the way it sounds cause I actually think he will be pretty good but if we needed to make room it'd be easiest to option Brennan.

# of Options Remaining:
Brennan - 3
Laureano - 2
Arias/Freeman/Rocchio - 1
Florial - 0

It's about age and control... Laureano can't be optioned since he can declare for free agency and still would get his paycheck whether or not he accepts the assignment...

I'd rather create the ABs for the guys who are here long term like Fry and Arias over give some to Laureano in all honesty...

If Florial had left the GuardIan’s through some minor trade and was doing this elsewhere, half the board would be ruing the trade and claiming we’d traded away a guy we didn’t need to.

It's in there, but will he get to it?

Who do you think? Seems to me Curry would be the choice, but...

They can’t send down Curry unless there are enough off days coming up that we don’t need 5 starters.

Edit: well I guess they can if Lively is the 5th started going forward, but I would assume Curry is ahead of Lively in the pecking order.
