2011 Free Agents excluding PG and PF

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
With the 12 draft being this loaded I'm content with throwing out the rotation as it sits now..

Davis / irving / sessions
Harris / parker
Gee / eyenga
jj / thompsan / jamison
Andy / hollins / erdan

I doubt Jamison will be that far back in the rotation. need him to play to raise his trade value. Hickson will probably play more center minutes instead.

Alanzo Gee... comes from SA organization...knock down shooter... defender...young buck at the 2 spot. Cheap too.

Gee was a stopgap at the three. he plays much better at the two. Parker has lost a step and shown himself more effective at the three.

Gee would start over harris. and harris would be lower in the depth chart than gibson who primarily played the 2 last season.

as someone mentioned jamison would either start or be in the 2nd line. for 3 reasons 1. he is the better player. 2 he is getting paid 12 million 3. he will need minutes if the cavs are expecting to move him mid season. should there be one.

The cavs need jamison to start, how elese will we garuntee a 10 point defecit by the end of the 1st

We could play a line up of Harris/Eyenga/Gee/JJ/Hollins with Sessions/Boobie/Parker/Jamison/Erden off the bench. If we didn't lose games by 40 the other team should automatically have their wins reset to 0. Kind of like getting Tomohawked in Sticks and Stones on COD: BO.

in this scenario does davis varejao and irving sit in suits taking turns playing pattycake?

If we are just going to sign another scrub swingman, we might as well just try bring back A.P. He's a good guy, doesn't cause any issues, and generally plays hard most of the time and is a good example for young players. He won't be helping us win any games either.

Dominic McGuire, Reggie Williams, or Earl Clark would be decent additions.

Marc Gasol would be 27 next year and being a slow plodder of a center he probably has a good lifespan in him (4-5 years or so). He's got a decent PER (16.8) and a positive +/-. We don't have any money but he'd be a good signing. He's got a decent jumper so you can probably get away with playing him with Thompson as well

A few random thoughts:

1. The status of some of those free agents has changed since the list was made. I know Daequan Cook and Reggie Williams among others have been given the qualifying offer, making them restricted free agents.

2. No new contracts can be signed until after the new collective bargaining agreement is finalized, which will likely be after the TPE expires.

3. Alonzo Gee may not sign with the Cavs, leaving the team in big trouble at the three.

The Cavs will be in big trouble at the three anyway if Alonzo Gee is getting major minutes there again this season.

I just don't see free agency as being able to provide a major addition for the Cavs. It did surprise me when Grant brought up free agency as a way that they seem to be looking for and counting on to bring in major help.

Take a risk on Clark, has potential to be really solid.

But he's more of a 4 than 3 and we don't need anymore 4s.

We should sign Tank Tankerson.

Tanks for that.

But seriously, I hope we keep Gee so we can continue to tank. The kinds of FAs that would replace Gee can be had any offseason. We just need to maximize our trade assets this season while continuing to suck for the next year or two. Then we'll be ready to destroy souls in the playoffs a couple of years after that.
