I wanted to put together a list of things to look for in tonight’s match-up. So, here they are:
Toughness: The Cavs got a good practice run against the front-line of the Pistons on Thursday, but the Pacers pack an even better, stronger punch. Hibbert is the big name down low and has proved that he is one of the top challengers in the league when it comes to defending the rim. David West is the heart and soul of that Pacer toughness. He may or may not fill out the stat sheet, but he backs down to no one. The Cavs often let West intimidate them last year, especially after Andy went down for the season. I want to see how the new look Cavs respond to Pacer style of play. Bennett has showed early on that he has that same West-like edge. Toughness is hard to measure, but keep on eye on offensive rebounds and second chance points. In last night’s close loss to the Bulls, the Pacers managed to total 18 points on second chance opportunities.
Active Players: The Cavs have sat out 8-10 players throughout the preseason for either injuries or scheduled rest. Zeller, Felix, Jack and Bynum are out for tonight’s game. Waiters is questionable while CJ Miles is listed as doubtful. Waiters did practice yesterday and hopes to see some action in tonight’s game. This means that we will once again see heavier minutes for Bennett and Karasev. How do the respond to the defensive pressure that the Pacers bring tonight. Can Bennett win his match-up against David West and Luis Scola?
Keep Pacers Under 40% FG: The Cavs have held preseason opponents to under 40% shooting twice this preseason. The Cavs held the Pistons to just 28% shooting in the second half of Thursday’s game. Can they continue the trend against a top end opponent?
