The thing that really makes this draft even more so a mystery, is we don't know who will be in the front office come the end of the season...We know Haslem is going to clean house in some respect but we're not sure to what extent... For the sake of this franchise, I really hope Heckert is able to continue building on his drafts...
I agree with the previous posts of trying to trade back in the 1st to recoup our lost 2nd rounder... We have three main holes I see that will plague the Browns: WR, CB and DE... If they're able to patch two of those holes as opposed to one, then I'm all for that... But that comes with the caveat on not passing on a playmaker if he's there with the Browns 1st pick..
The thing that really helps in that respect is that this looks to be a potentially deep draft at those positions, depending on who declares...
As of now, I'd go defense with the first pick...
I think an interesting debate to have is whether or not someone like Jarvis Jones or Barkevious Mingo could play a Von Miller type role in our defense: being a 43 OLB in base sets but switching to DE in passing situations and other sets... It's certainly something to think about considering Dick Jauron has experience using his OLBs in that regard with Roosevelt Colvin being a double-digit sack player when Jauron was in Chicago... It would give the Browns someone to move around on defense, cover a potential hole at OLB, keep a good run defender in Rucker at DE and still provide with a legit pass rusher opposite of Sheard... As long as those guys display the movement skills to play OLB and go backwards, it would also allow them to stay at their weights and we wouldn't have to worry about asking them to put weight on... A sleeper to watch in this regard is Oregon's DE Dion Jordan who plays all over their defense, and even has experience pressing WRs...
This DE class figures to be extremely deep with Werner, Mingo, Montgomery, Jeffcoat, Jordan, Jones, etc... There are a ton of very talented names figuring to come out...
The WR class has a lot to prove throughout the season in order for people to get a good handle on it..
I'm not sure if there's going to be a top-notch shutdown CB but there will be several very good CBs in David Amerson, Xavier Rhoades, Johnthan Banks and Dee Milliner... With the AFC North shifting to more of a passing division, as well as the NFL in general, it might not be a bad idea to get a CB who can help out in that regard... The Browns have been able to get pressure on the QB thus far but we've had trouble covering and have seen what losing Haden and/or Brown would do to the secondary... On the other hand, we've also seen how the Eagles corners completely shut us down and what having a terrible secondary, like the Bengals, does...
I just hope and pray we're not legitimately discussing QB prospects come draft time next year...
