Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)
In a perfect world we would end up getting:
Love
Dieng
Marion
Allen
Then we probably would play with a 9-man-rotation.
Starting five:
Kyrie
Waiters
James
Love
AV
Bench unit:
Allen
Miller
Marion
TT/Dieng
I love Delly and Jones. But I don't see how they would be a part of the rotation.
Imo, when Kyrie goes to the bench, Dion switches to the point guard position and Allen comes in playing as shooting guard.
Well it sounds as though the Love deal is complete. I was rooting for getting Love, but completely against giving up Wiggins. In that imaginary world where I am the GM of the Cavs, I get this trade done:
Three team trade Cavs/Wolves/76ers
The Cavs get Love and Noel
The Timberwolves get Thaddeus Young, Bennet, Haywood, Lucas III, and Murphy
The Sixers get Waiters, Tristan Thompson (with an extension done), Kevin Martin (or Chase Budinger) and Shved
And then I hand out draft picks like free candy.
I don't think it would be important to have even a single pick over the next four years. Our core would look like this:
Kyrie (6yrs)
Wiggins (5 years)
LBJ (hopefully based on what was said- rest of career)
Love (6 years)
Noel (4 years)
Every vet free agent would be willing to come to Cleveland for the minimum to get a ring. How would this deal not be enough for Sixers or Minn? Thompson will be a better fit beside Embiid and Waiters would make the All-star team on that Sixers roster based on PPG alone. I'd even throw a second round pick to Sixers as a thank you. Minnesota gets to be competitive now with Thad and Bennett as well as three(four?) first round picks.
The Cavs have bid against themselves. Giving up Wiggins was never necessary. We would still have had the best trade package to offer Minnesota. I don't believe Wiggins is the next LBJ. He may never be Paul George (get well soon). All this team needed from him was elite defense and 15ppg. Anything else, including the potential of reaching the superstar level of guys like LBJ and PG, would have been an amazing bonus. It's a shame the Cavs did not stand their ground.
