2014 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Chad Ford on the 2014 NBA Class

It is going to take a gigantic package to get a top 4 pick in 14, the GM's are not stupid they know how valuable a top 5 pick is in 2014. Realistically I think we are picking 13-17 in 2014 and none of the these players will be on the board. I just hope you guys dont start wasting time fantasizing about something that probably wont happen!

Yep, been the refrain the last 3 years...proven 100% false pretty much. We'll see if you guys are finally right on the 4th try in 2014.

Re: Chad Ford on the 2014 NBA Class

If we can't get the top players in this draft, it won't matter. We'd technically would try to trade for the star equivalent on the trade market long before it reaches this point. I've seen us already starting to lose our direction (it wouldn't take much to get back), so we need to stop trying to tank so many years. We'll be fine even if we don't get a Tracy McGrady with a motor from the draft.

Re: Chad Ford on the 2014 NBA Class

The 2014 draft could work in our favor without tanking for another season. There could be some teams that come to a crossroads and top-out, reaching what their Front Office decides as their ceiling. If that happens, they may be willing to sell off their assets in order to go into tank mode for a better shot at the top of the 2014 draft.

This. I was also thinking that teams would be more willing to deal 2013 picks knowing that the 2014 draft will be potentially much stronger at the top. Maybe it will make it easier for the Cavs to wrangle 2 lottery picks in this next draft or to make a deal for an all-star in the next year or so.

Re: Chad Ford on the 2014 NBA Class

Drafts are always considered strong when judged by how the guys do in HS. Remember when Harrison Barnes was the truth? And sullinger was going to be elton brand?

I'll wait until they've at least played a couple of games

60% of the time, it works every time.

Re: Chad Ford on the 2014 NBA Class

Can we just focus on the current season and upcoming draft instead of the draft 2 years from now? Thank you.

Na, this is the 1st year I over estimated the win total. I was all for tanking last year, and realized this year we had no choice after the injuries and brutal schedule and lack of development from TT. If we are still horrible next year it means Waiters and our 1st rounder next year and Irving have not progressed. That has dire consequnces that a Jabari Parker wont fix. I still think the draft is important the next 3 years, but we will not be able to draft our way into contention alone.

Grant needs to get to work on improving the roster 4 this summer not 2 years from now! I would see this team get Len, Bennett or Muhammad and another quality player with their 1st rounder. Then obtain two vets in their late 20's who are significant upgrades in the rotation. That will leave use with enough cap space to go after a FA in a sign and trade or a straight signing along with the allure of a good young team that has just bean to develop a winning culture. And yes, there is always the off chance we might be able to get that certain player back that would spead up the rebuild by leap years!

Andrew Wiggins would.

Re: Chad Ford on the 2014 NBA Class

Why does Wiggins receive so much praise? Honestly, I don't see it. He has solid size, unreal length & athleticism, and good defensive instincts, which are great characteristics to have and all, but beyond that I don't really see much actual game. Skills like ball-handling for example, while they can be improved, are things that players typically either have or don't have from a relatively young age; rarely will you see someone enter the NBA/college and only then learn to consistently beat their man off the dribble. Ball-handling is the first thing that came to mind as he's overly undeveloped in the area, but it's not just that - he slacks in nearly all aspects of his offensive game. He seems to be an alright jumpshooter and an average passer ... for high school levels. If you pay attention to his highlight tapes (better if you watch a full game), you'll see him (on more than several occasions) playing entirely out of control and nearly making himself fall over because he simply lacks the coordination and fluidity that you see in most other top-rated prospects. From what I've seen, the only thing Wiggins does at an elite level is jumping out of the gym and slamming on someones face. Guys like LeBron earned so much praise because they were complete basketball players on top of being insane athletes at the high-school level. It seems to be only the latter with Wiggins.

If anyone would like to rebuttal and explain what I'm not grasping, please do. I'd love to have the best prospect since LeBron on this team if that's truly how he'll turn out, but for whatever reason I don't see many signs of the future perennial superstar he's made out to be.

Re: Chad Ford on the 2014 NBA Class

I'm a huge Wiggins believer, but Tracy McGrady + motor? That's a little much. T-Mac with added motor, and without the injury troubles of course, is probably a player that resembles Jordan.

Elton brand was a great player, an all star and 2006 MVP candidate.

Franchise player, he was not.

Re: Chad Ford on the 2014 NBA Class

Franchise player, he was not.

Before injuries he was a 20/10 machine. Not too many of those play in the NBA right now. Maybe not a franchise player on the level of LeBron (maybe 10 in NBA history are...), but we'd be in a great situation with a 20/10 PG, and a 20/10 PF/C.

As for Wiggins I just don't see him being on Durant's level like he is being touted. I think a lot of his hype has to do with him being Canadian honestly.
