Sorry man, I was just commenting on the general state of things. It's an a great 1-3 to the order and a great top 3 pictures. We're going to need more than that to seriously contend next year(not just chase the tail of the wild card from 5-8 games back). Nothing nore, nothing less. I'll still be a fan, I'll still pay attention to the games.
And as far as Santana. Is he a bum? Of course not. But the the guy should be our 6th or 7th hitter. He has proven over the past few years the he can not handle the burden of being the backbone of an order from the 3-4-5 spot. Doesn't make him bad, doesn't mean I don't value what he does.
I wasn't even talking about Santana....just in general....all batting average is good for in today's MLB is for casual fans who aren't into modern baseball statistics to see it on their TVs or in the stadiums and say, "Oh, this person is hitting .300, they must be really good and helping the team a lot", or "this person is hitting .225, he should be sent down, he's hurting the team", when in reality it goes a lot deeper then that.
And I say that because, on the highly likely chance that we do in fact do this, and trade or sign a guy with a batting average below your wanted .250-.260 mark, people in here are going to complain about one of the most pointless areas of need in the game today.
And I agree with you on Santana, I've said as much that he shouldn't be a #4 hitter because it doesn't fit what he has evolved into as a hitter. It requires you to consistently drive in runs, not consistently work counts and get on base a lot by walks while hitting the occasional xbh...but I think he should be our #2 hitter, with Lindor leading off, but that's another conversation for another time...guy has been hitting out of position for a few years now, and it all stems back to our inability to find someone who can stick at the #4 spot...thought it could be Swisher, thought it could be Moss...those didn't work out for us. But reading this board you'd think Santana was a huge detriment to this team, and was giving us negative production (which isn't even close to being true)...that's the part that bothers me, that people can't even realize that he is hitting in a spot that doesn't suit his skillset, and that people can't see the value in his current skillset. Instead they just site his batting average, when baseball is so much more than that.
