People are making it seem like espn is on the verge of bankruptcy. ESPN is still an extremely profitable organization, bringing in tons of money every year, just not as much as it used to.
They laid off even more employees couple years back but it's just more noticeable now bc of the big names on the list this time around. These cuts have more to do with their change of market strategy moving forward, they're planning to move away from cable and article-heavy coverage to more live and easily-accessible sports content on laptops, tabloids and iPhones and what not.
