Carries Fishers mom, Debbie Reynolds, just passed away from an apparent stroke. Unbelievable.

That is horrible. The grief of losing her daughter killed her.

As for the pool, I'd add Bernie Kosar.

The actor who played ALF just passed away. R2, Princess Leia and ALF all in the same year. WTF
......

Sucks..

People do realize that there will be more annual celebrity deaths each year because of the popularization and consumption of entertainment, I hope.

I'm positive this all happened so that Cleveland could have a big sports year. I'm not kidding.

These were sacrifices.

The next 5-6 years will be hellish. We will know. The rest of the world might not pick up on it, but if the Browns get good at the same time it's going to become obvious.

Technically he only played half of ALF, and not sure that counts as a celebrity.

Debbie Reynolds does for sure, and that one is crazy sad.

I woulda tapped it. RIP.

Winning a championship, Tribe getting to extra innings in Game 7....Great year as far as I'm concerned. Sad to see anyone die, but famous people die every year. Last year we lost Leonard Nimoy, Yogi Berra, Hot Rod Williams, James Horner, and Lemmy

I moved this out of the George Michael thread and over to this one.

This year has been particularly rough, at least from my perspective.

One, the unexpected death of Prince hit me really hard. When I watch the tributes, it still doesn't seem real. I'm at least as big a Prince fan as I am a Cavs fan. And after some other celebrity deaths that hit me in the past, (Michael Jackson, Steve Jobs, Robin Williams, etc) I have been asked how I would react if Prince died. I always said "I don't have to worry about that, Prince takes such great care of himself, he is going to outlive me".

Another thing that makes this year seem worse is CNN did something I don't recall them doing before. Instead of just doing a story at the end of the year about who died, they kept a running story going. So ever time I clicked on a link about a death, I got the composite photo of the biggest names who died. This was made even worse for me because Prince was right in the front of that photo. And often they make the headline vague enough that yo have to click the link to even see who just died.

I grew up watching Ali when he was the greatest, so that one hit me too.

George Michael hit me for two reasons. One is just the day before it happened I was enjoying listening to my daughter sing Last Christmas and wondered if she even knows how George Michael is. The other reason is he was just 4 days older than me. People my age aren't supposed to just die for no apparent reason.

On top of all of the celebrity deaths, 2016 had the worst election ever.

I've also dealt with some personal issues this year, including the year long battle with Amazon and the counterfeiters.

I've gone through rough things before in my life, including times worse than the personal stuff this year, I don't remember every being so ready for a year to be just over because the things just seem to pile on this year.

Well, i can certainly understand that personal preferences can affect how each of us reacts to the death of a celebrity. I personally lament musically the deaths of Keith Emerson and Greg Lake, and particularly David Bowie, more than Michael or Prince, though I certainly respect Prince musically.

But to be honest, the only celebrity death in recent years for which i felt true sadness, as opposed to "gee, that's a bummer" was for Leonard Nimoy.

I think the first celebrity death that hit me was Len Bias (another person born the same year I was). I was a big ACC basketball fan back then, Len Bias was a beast. LeBron James type beast. He was the guy that I expected to really challenge Jordan. It was one of those, I'll always remember where I was events. And I was on a business trip way outside of ACC land where nobody there really knew who he was.

Steve Jobs and Prince are two I expected to really hit me. I always look back at 1984 as a year that changed my life.

First, January 24, 1984, the Macintosh was released. I was fresh out of college with a Computer Science degree and was one of the few people who actually owned their own computer back then. It just blew me away what they did in that little box. I know Steve Jobs wasn't the technical guy, but he was still the driving force behind that and so many other great products.

Then Purple Rain opening night later that same year. Before that night Prince was just one of the many artists who I enjoyed when they were on, but never thought about buying their record. I got there early, they played the soundtrack before the movie, then I watch the movie. I couldn't get the music out of my head. Someone promised to give me their copy a week later, I couldn't wait that long. From that day on I bought everything he released the day he released it (which averaged more than an album a year for the next 31 years), saw him live at least a half a dozen times, and collected everything else I could get my hands on (It took me 3 years to track down his first two Jazz albums, Madhouse 8 and Madhouse 16, when I found out about them).

For Christmas my wife gave me a trip to Paisley Park. That's going to be so hard to go to. I always planned to go there for one of Prince's events he so often had there, but never made it.

The other names I mentioned, Robin Williams and Michael Jackson, those both surprised me how much they bothered me. For Robin Williams. It just hit me how much brilliant work he did. And Good Will Hunting in particular was important in my personal life. And with Michael Jackson, I've listened to, but no really bought, his music since he was a kid.

I still haven't watched the Steve Jobs movie because the trailer got him so spot on.
