Kind of shocked to see such a consensus on Mejia as the #1 guy in the system.
Not saying he isn't. Just I feel him, Zimmer, and McKenzie are so close that a few places were bound to have one of the other 2 as their top guy.
But we lost 2 of our best top end prospects and by far our 2 best reliever prospects last year, and I still feel confident that this is easily a top 10 farm in baseball. And that will only get better, depending on how Benson and Jones progress.
Zimmer's lack of contact are rightfully leaving the prospect guys concerned.
He's got to be better in that regard.
Not disagreeing with that at all. All 3 have ? marks still. Mejia's really only looked like a top prospect for one full year, can he continue that? Zimmer has contact/K issues and has had some health problems the last few years. McKenzie is still in the low levels and has a lot of projection still playing a role in his ranking.
But I don't think you can go wrong with having either of them as your #1 right now, really all I was trying to get at.
McKenzie, IMO, is like 20 pounds and an improved changeup away from being one of the best overall right-handers in the minor leagues.
Benson is just makes me want to put my head down and cry, maybe I just have been watching too much big league video lately.
Jones could be so much smoother through the hitting zone if he'd stop pulling the bat head toward the pitcher as his last movement before he brings his hands through.
That's likely a point of emphasis for him. He's got to be late on everything.
