2019 53-man roster news

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Love Gillan’s upside as a career punter in the NFL but my fear is that we’re too close to contention to take a chance on a project right now. Bear in mind that he’d also need to undertake holding duties.

Per his own admission, he doesn’t understand the nuances of the game, situational decision-making, etc.

I love the leg but not every punt needs to be 70+ yards. The potential that he could routinely out kick his coverage is a concern. His unproven ability to pooch a kick inside the 10 is also a concern. Does he have touch or could we be dealing with an automatic touchback every time he punts the ball?

Given the fact that we should be in playoff contention, I’d take the proven vet.

I feel like the Browns traded Andy Lee a couple years ago because he had too big of a leg and he was constantly out kicking the coverage. A team has to match the kickers distance and hang time with how fast their gunners are. If our gunners can't get down field to match the Hammer's leg it will be a on going problem and he will have to be the one making those tackles to save TDs.

I like what he gives to the team but it seems like he still has a long way to go in learning what a NFL punter needs to do. Would it be crazy for the team to put him on the practice squad and teach him up? I wouldn't even be opposed to letting him be the designated special teams guy instead of Ray Ray Armstrong and let him learn while also being a gunner.

The Browns traded Andy Lee because the Panthers offered a fourth round pick and Colquitt. That might have been the best trade Sashi Brown made as a GM.

It was great return and we were basically tanking but he was also consistently out kicking the coverage too. It was a no brainer deal because he didn't fit the coverage group we had and it was great return.

Also we didn't get Colquitt in the deal we got Kasey Redfern. We ended up signing Colquitt after the Broncos let him go right before the start of the season.
