Good for them tbh

That team is going to be incredibly good soon.

Glad he won't be joining the AL Central

I'd expect Harper for $310m+ to the Phillies soon. Hopefully soon, that is

I didn't expect the 10 year contracts to come back. At some time baseball has to see that no matter how good the player is, 10 year contracts are bad for baseball as a team like SD can be handcuffed the 2nd half of the contract if Machado's production dips and he doesn't opt out.

I wonder if the Indians offered Lindor a 5/150mil right now if he'd sign?

Its suicide for the Padres. Terrible deal in about 3 years.

In 3 years Machado will still be in his 20s.

It is an awful lot of money, but it's infinitely smarter to give a 10 year deal to a 26 year old like Machado than the 10 year deal the Mariners gave 31 year old Cano. Cano just turned 36, the age Manny will be when this deal is done, and he still has 5 years $120m left on his deal.

If Machado goes through the entire 10 years, he'll be younger than Cano is now.

I think he is better and def. more marketable.
I don't know enough about either to comment on marketability.

However, when I look at their careers and respective positions, I can't help but think the premium superstar infielder, who's been much more consistent, would be more valuable than the inconsistent outfielder who honestly hasn't lived up to expectations.

I figured I'd ask since I don't spend much time following baseball as a whole anymore outside of the Indians and the Astros.

Why is he more marketable?
You follow enough sports to understand why? Don’t act like you don’t.
Harper is arguably the most well known face in baseball. He’s been on a ton of commercials and has the largest social media presence in baseball and 13th in overall athletes. He plays hard and is an instant face of the franchise. You can blame MLB as a whole for not marketing players like Trout,
Lindor, Acuna, Machado, the list goes on and on.
