2019 Browns Off Season/Roster Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Washington is really concerned with their receivers. I’d imagine it would take a 2020 third and Callaway, especially if other teams are making competitive offers.

I’d still do that deal, though. It instantly fills our biggest hole. Obviously I’d rather only have to give up a third, but I figured it would take more.

I’m not sure I would be willing to give them a young, talented receiver with years of team control left for a disgruntled tackle that wants out. I don’t think they’d really be in a position to demand that much, personally.

The Browns only have 11 million left in cap space. What's he looking for? The guy is often injured and 31.

My initial thoughts are thats a huge over pay for the browns. In a world where cap space and team control mean as much as talent, Calloway has a decent amount of worth. If the browns are giving back Calloway they better not be trading anything better than a low 4th/5th rounder.

Dont forget if the Browns are trading for Williams chances are they will need to give him a new contact, or at least make it a top priority. He is owed 10 million this year and 12 next year. He should probably be in the 14-15 million dollar range.

Overall i would say if im the browns I would look to do something like a 3rd and a 5th or something of that nature.

Duane Brown was traded from Houston to Seattle for a CB, 5th and a 2nd back in the 2017 season and was under contract for 2018.

good information. A couple things are slightly different here 1: Chances are the browns would have a better draft placement a year out than the seahawks (meaning a browns future pick is probably worth slightly more) 2: Williams is requesting a trade (lowering his value slightly)

But i do think it leads strongly to the browns would need to give up at least a 2nd to get him.

And if you're giving up a second, you're losing another young guy you hope to be a starter at a bargain salary for years.

Cap management is of critical importance in the NFL.

Sometimes... players may not be a good fit for the team's direction. Just because someone good could be available doesn't mean we have to figure out a way to acquire him.

Trent Williams is GREAT, but for how long?
-He's 31 years old
-Hasn't played a full season since 2013
-Making a lot of money
-Will demand a huge contract soon

And with all that, we'd likely have to offer a 2nd, or a 3rd + additional compensation in order to get him? It's just not worth it. Even if we wanted to move G-Rob to RT.

Let's see if G-Rob can put together a solid season. There will be plenty of cheap but decent players hitting the market when rosters start trimming down. Let's bolster our OTs that way, and invest a high draft pick next year on the O-line.

Like who? Assuming you’ll land a viable upgrade via the camp casualty avenue sounds like an approach unlikely to pay dividends.

I’d still send a multitude of middle-round picks knowing we are unlikely to extend him; it’s worth the rental given the low hit-rate of mid round picks.

Today Greedy was starting opposite Ward and took on OBJ. Ward, Mitchell, and Carrie are already three really nice cornerbacks, but if Greedy turns out to be a positive EPA starter this season, the Browns may end up with one of the five best cornerback groups in the NFL (Chargers, Jaguars, Patriots, and Ravens).
