Pretty much this....
Part of our strategy needs to be acquiring an All-Star point guard without giving up the #8 pick. The only way you land Kemba without giving up the #8 pick is taking on Batum IMO. Jordan wants out of that long term contract. We eat Batum’s deal, and I think Kemba is possible without the #8 pick.
That #8 pick then gets used to land PG most likely, IMO.
A bit of pipe dream I suppose, as this scenario takes:
1. LeBron committing to the Cavs organization
2. Dan going deep into luxury tax
3. Jordan being so giddy at opportunity to unload the worst contract in NBA, we can acquire Kemba with expiring deals primarily, with likely minimal assets going out.
4. PG forcing his way to CLE for #8 pick + Love + Hill or JR Smith + future pick become enough in a package. PG would have to tell OKC he’s done there and CLE is his destination city. It’d then be on OKC te recoup as much value as possible. #8 pick and Love isn’t bad. An expiring JR Smith or Hill also gives them space for 2020 to make another run at elite players to put next to Rusty. One other thing to ponder is OKC trying to move Carmelo. If we took on the last year of his deal it’d be even more enticing for OKC.
If we can shed the last years of JR, Korver, Hill, and possibly unload Tristan....while giving up some value in Love and the #8 pick, it’s possible this squad is completely retooled going into 2019. Key is going to be absorbing bad contracts to land quality players.
