2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Leaving the arena in the middle of an actual game, to me, is about one of the worst things you can do other than physically attacking someone on your team/org or committing a serious crime.
Antonio Brown just did it and his career is over. Obviously culture differences between sports, but leaving mid-game is the worst of the worst teammate thing you can do.

Antonio Daniels said today that the one game suspension is far too light. Glad he’s not our problem anymore.

You're downplaying an NBA player getting into an argument with his coach and then getting in his car and taking off at halftime.

When your personal issues take away from your ability to perform, that's one thing. When they cause you to up and walk off your job, that's an entirely different one.

The Rockets are fools not to cut KPJ immediately. Lucas now has 0 credibility in that organization.

I mean there's levels to not participating. Heat of the moment taking off I can understand more than just not showing up like Simmons. He's straight up pouting, but there is no way he will be cut.

Sitting out because you can't start seems pretty awful too. Andre did it, Wall and there have been others.

Lots of prima Donna behavior in the NBA. Guys refuse to enter games sometimes.

He got suspended which means he experienced financial consequences.

I thought the time he body checked the ref was worse than this, personally.

I think it's serious, and obviously he overreacted. I just don't see this as a straw that broke the camel's back moment.

There are strategic reasons players sit out, whether it be contract, role, or whatever. Still sucks, but that's an agent/organization issue to be resolved as much as a player issue.

This was open player defiance of a coach in the middle of an actual game, not some calculated negotiation tactic. And while sometimes nasty words get said in those situations, I personally can't remember a guy just leaving the arena in the middle of a game, whether he was on the bench or not. It's clear they're not going to cut him for this, but he's probably set himself up for that to be what happens the next time he pulls something.

Getting rid of kpj was one of Altman finest moves. Mobley’s dad wanted him nowhere close to KPJ and I don’t blame him one bit.

The problem/issue always was that everything we heard was very much second hand, and there also was a lot of stuff about KPJ we apparently didn't hear at all because the team didn't talk about it publicly. The lack of faith some folks had in Koby meant that they didn't trust his decision-making when it came to KPJ. Now that Koby's plan is a lot more clear, I think people are now trusting his judgement in terms of all those KPJ things we didn't hear about.

Obviously, it also "helps" that KPJ has now had this issue with Lucas in Houston. Hard to defend him now because the actual facts are open, and one-sided.

Thing is -- and I'm someone who turned on KPJ pretty quickly -- we didn't know that until long after KPJ was gone. Or rather, us fans didn't know that, but the Cavs/Koby did. Explains some of the disconnect in opinions.

Koby has built a lot of capital about his decisions since then.

I knew KPJ was troubled, but I had major questions about Koby's ability to relate to the players with his dust ups with Drummond, Love and JR. Not to mention his issues with Beilein and the strange situation with Larry Drew.

It was an inherently unstable time with just young guys and vets with expiring contracts passing through. Darius was not clearly the better talent than KPJ at the time, and we had no franchise guy, so it seemed very foolish to me to give up on talent. He has done a great job adding talent to the team since and this team is waay stronger and more stable than just a year ago.

Very glad the young guys have taken ownership and it really does seem like JB has solidified the culture. Koby deserves credit for all of that. Lots of people were wondering if JB and Koby were on the hot seat during the summer. Seems laughable now.

NBA changes very fast

I did like KPJ's game and saw him as possibly the big playmaker that could make Sexton work as a starter. I was not sure Darius was going to get to this level.

Very glad I was wrong. I don't think KPJ is going to reach his ceiling with his attitude. It's ironic though because I do think if he had fit in, this would have been a very good spot for him and he could have had guys to cover up these weaknesses we are seeing in his game as one of the main guys.

Much, much happier with our situation post-KPJ. That said, I don't think I've ever before read of him "apologizing" or exhibiting contrition of any kind. Perhaps he's turned a small corner, and I wish him well.

Rockets should trade KPJ to the shanghai sharks to teach him a lesson
