2020 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I’ve never seen a team get losses forgiven more than Clemson.

Very under the radar game today. Notre Dame vs UNC. I think Carolina beats them.

The rankings suck. That being said, Ohio State's defense and their running backs also suck. Team is being carried by the QB, OL, and WR play. I'd feel much better about their chances at a championship if they had a good tailback.

Klatt is dead right though. Georgia is rated high because they have high Scout 100 and ESPN 100 rankings every year. And that simply shouldn't matter.

What we THINK their talent level is should mean next to nothing.

I commend the committee because they are willing to ignore a prior weeks rankings when they get new info, unlike say, the coaches poll, where preseason rankings mean everything. But they clearly have a bias towards teams that we perceive, via flawed human ratings, that have "elite" talent.

Which brings me to this: I didn't understand getting rid of the computers. The problem wasn't the computers. It was the fact that the computers had to pick just two teams. Bring back the computers. Have them pick the four teams.

Clemson doesn’t lose often so there aren’t that many losses to forgive. That said, losing on the road to the Irish without their QB is an excusable one. They probably get the benefit over OSU since they’ve beaten them a few times in the last few years. Fair or unfair, they get the benefit of the doubt for that.

I'd love it if the BCS formula was still used to rank the teams. It was significantly better than this dumb committee.

The defense definitely sucks, but I disagree about the Running Backs. I think we've just been spoiled with GOATs lately: Hyde, Zeke, Dobbins. Nobody on this team is on that level. However, the running game is being criminally underrated this year.

The team runs for 233 yards per game, which is 16th in the country. They average just over 5 yards per carry. Not elite by any means, but not shit either. Last week, in the biggest game of the season, they ran for over 300 yards on over 6 yards per carry. And most promising of all, Teague & Sermon have been getting better with each game.

Frankly, I think the running game was really the only highlight of the Indiana game. Well, that and the WR play. Fields had his worst game (by far), the pass blocking from the OL was laughably bad, and the defense was as bad as we've ever seen. I'm not sure how one could watch that Indiana game and be disappointed in the running game. It's just one game, sure. But, again, Teague & Sermon have been improving every week. And we finally saw Fields run for the first time last week, which obviously had a great impact. The running game overall is trending upward.

While true, I don't know how much better Lawrence could have played than Uiagalelei did. His absence probably meant very little to the outcome of that game.

I think the running game overall was good because of the run blocking, and it was good in Indiana because the Hoosiers focused more, at least early on, on stopping. Fields. But those tailbacks are nothing remotely special.

I think the problem is going be more evident when we play a really good team. The defense isn't going to able to get off the field, and the RB's are going to leave yards (and time of possession) on the field. I think we're going to be in danger of giving up shitloads of points.

I will agree that we will need to rely on Fields' legs come playoff time, similar to how we did against Indiana. Adding him to the running game will make it much more difficult to defend, as we saw.

We don't need a first round RB to be National Champions. With Fields & these WRs, we just need them to continue to do what they've been doing.

The defense is very scary right now, but there's still a few weeks to figure things out. It was obviously a strong point of emphasis this week, I look forward to seeing how things look tomorrow.

Either way, though, all the playoffs games are going to be high scoring. They will likely come down to who wins the turnover battle and who can get stops in the red zone.

If/when Michigan decides to move on from Harbaugh, their first call should be to Matt Campbell.

edit: wrong thread.
