Apparently telling him "hey you suck with RISP so we're gonna move ya" works... Looks like Lindor found a new home.

ia that like cuz you were opening a beer when Frankie hit it out you gotta open a beer everytime we need a long ball?

Detroit won too. The Tribe might pull off another collapse.

This team does suck. You’re not crazy and it’s not your imagination. They’re not good at all....

They literally threw this game away. Leon's heave into center field, Freeman's horrible throw to the plate, and Wittgren plunking Maybin in the back on the first pitch. Wow.

After Leon pinch hit I would have put Hedges in to catch. He's far superior defensively. He would not have launched that throw into center field. Even if Baez is safe at second he doesn't score and Lindor's HR would have given us a 5-4 lead. In that case Hand pitches the 9th and probably gets the save and the win. Instead the home run ties the game so we go with Ollie and he screws it up.

Just when we finally have a decent chance to win the bullpen lays an egg with Karinchak, Perez and Wittgran all crapping the bed. In the 9th Perez walked Bryant and then gave up a hit to left-handed hitting Rizzo to put us in a bind.

Against all odds the Tribe got 9 hits off Darvish, which nobody has done this year in his previous nine starts. They ended up with 11 hits and four walks but grounded into two double plays and had a runner thrown out at the plate so it only resulted in five runs. Naquin was 4-for-4 and Frankie had an amazing three hits with RISP after going 0-for-19 in those situations.

The bottom third of the lineup came through with four hits and a walk (by Naylor and DeShields) so that's a positive. But our 2-5 hitters went 0-for-16. Cesar Hernandez's wife picked a bad time to have a baby. Freeman was 0-for-4 along with the throwing error.

I loved the way Naquin and Lindor hit to the opposite field. Naquin had a single and double to left and Lindor had a double and home run to left. They each also had singles to center. They need to keep doing that. The problem was that even with four hits Naquin did not score a run because he had Naylor and Perez coming up after him. Naylor finally got his second extra base hit for the Tribe - a double to right. Nice to see him pull the ball and get a little air under it.

The STO announcers mentioned that Cookie's ERA in the 5th inning is over 8.00. I'm not surprised. Almost every game he seems to lose it in the 5th. I noticed in several previous games that his fastball loses velocity by the 5th inning and tonight Andre Knott mentioned it. I don't think he ever got all his stamina back after his serious illness and I wonder if he ever will. His heater was 95-96 to start the game but was 92-93 in the 5th when the Cubs strung together five consecutive hits. He also stopped throwing it. I wonder if he realizes he loses some velo and is afraid to throw it. The hitters seemed to be sitting on his breaking stuff.

Just like last year, a bullpen collapse sends the team spiraling. Last year, it was against Atlanta in May.

Alomar put his faith in all the wrong guys, Cimber especially. That first loss against the Royals completely robbed the team of its mojo. Now they have a great big monkey on their backs. What a waste of a great start to the season - most likely Frankie’s last with the Tribe.

They still have time to right the ship and win in the playoffs, but they do need someone to help step it up from the pen!

@Wham with the Right Hand

I did say Carrasco needed to be an opener and have like Plutko ride off of him, or the other way around since both struggle as the game gets later.

The Clevinger trade robbed them of another stopper, without giving them immediate batting help. It was a risky move - the opposite of going all-in.

acumen man ties it in the 9th!
Glad you like the word acumen, which is defined as exercising good judgment. Lindor quite often does not demonstrate good baseball judgment on the field, particularly on the base paths. I stand by my earlier comment.

When one thing gets fixed another breaks. The Indians got an amazing eight hits from the 6-9 spots in the batting order. I'm sure that's never happened this year. Llindor got not one, not two, but THREE hits with RISP. That definitely hasn't happened this year.

So the two biggest issues get fixed in the same game and what happens? The defense and bullpen go to pieces.

Maton hit Baez to put him on first base where he scored on the Little League stolen base/throwing error/another throwing error. Wittgren hit two batters to force in the winning run. Naylor tried to throw a runner out at the plate and his throw almost ended up in the pressbox. Freeman's relay throw from the vicinity of second base was a good 10 feet wide of the plate. It arrived before Baez even started his slide so even a decent throw would have got him.

By contrast, the Heyward gunned down Lindor at the plate on a perfect throw to save a run. The Cubs needed to make one good throw the entire game and they made it. The Indians were airmailing throws and hitting batters all over the place. Sometimes the game comes down to defense. The Tribe's defense has been excellent all season but lately it's been springing some leaks.

To make matters worse, Berto had to leave the game with a sore lat muscle after making a superb throw to gun down a base stealing attempt. If not for that injury Baez probably doesn't even try to steal second and end up scoring on the play.

Cookie left after six innings with a low pitch count because he was feeling some tightness in his calf. It started in the 5th inning which was when the Cubs strung together some hits and tied the game. The calf may have affected his pitching to some extent. He was fine in the sixth, though.

The wheels are coming off. Injuries are taking their toll. Freeman in for Hernandez and Leon coming in for Perez resulted in the Baez scamper which probably decided the game. If we were up 5-4 going into the 9th there's a good chance Hand closes it out.

This team is that dead sheep head floating in the lake

Frank Duffy wasnt available
I was attending a game at Municipal in the late 70's (9 or 10 years old), with the Tribe down a run in the 9th and a runner on first...still remember my excitement when Larvell Blanks (20 HR in 2000 ab) pinch hit for Frank Duffy....he flew out to the warning track, but I felt like we had a chance. Sandy Leon is no Larvell Blanks.
