2020 Series #18 White Sox @ Indians, Sep 21-24

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We couldn't get the first Gio so we got the second. That was sweet.

Bieber with another great performance even though he seemed to be struggling (for him). But 10 K's in five innings with no earned runs is pretty good.

Hosey needs to clean things up defensively although I can't be too hard on him since Abreu hit that ball at about 110 mph.

Luplow just needed a lefty. I agree, it was not smart to bring in a lefty to face him leading off the inning. Even if he doesn't homer there's a decent chance he walks or get a base hit with nobody out. Not that Perez or Mercado would have done anything.

My guess is that Renteria felt it was the bottom of the order and Gonzalez could get through it and he would save his better relievers for the next inning when the Indians started with a runner on second.

This has been a really fun series to watch. Tomorrow will be another great pitching matchup.

Reyes scares the shit out of me. He’s inevitably going to get critical ABs in the playoffs and sometimes I have no idea what he is thinking at the plate.
Almost every at-bat they're jamming him up and in with fastballs and going down and away with change-ups and curves. At 6'5" Reyes has trouble with pitches on the inside corner, especially since he crowds the plate for some reason. Jose Ramirez and his short arms can handle inside fastballs but not Reyes. And with his height it's a long way down to his knees and it looks like he's bending from the waist to hack at those low, outside breaking balls.

I don't know what the answer is. Bradley Zimmer is another very tall hitter who was never able to hit the fastball up and in.

If we win tomorrow, its gonna be a very interesting weekend.

We would be one behind the Chisox, two behind the Twins.

We win a tie with Chicago, lose a tie with Minnesota.

But...

While we play the Pirates, Chicago plays the Cubs and Minnesota plays the Reds.

And...

The Reds are in an six team race for two playoff spots, and all are within one game of each other. The Reds NEED to win every game they can...no setting up for the post season.

And...

Bauer (remember him) is gonna pitch Sunday on short rest if the Reds season is on the line. Tonight on short rest he went 104 pitches in eight innings of one run ball, including 12 Ks. And he wants to win the Cy Young. Tonights big outing and another vs the Twins just might be enough to win it.

Bauer's been great for them.

That trade looking bad for us, in retrospect, with only Scott Moss, Victor Nova, Logan Allen, and Franmil Reyes to show for it. That's kind of a crap sandwich.

He was letting out the frustration of striking out three times in his first three at-bats.
It was quite a moment...felt to me like he was throwing away his frustrations for this entire 2020 season...but in any case, it was a prodigious toss.

What....

Edit: Reyes looks like a monster when he is finishing developing. You have to remember he is still a young player. Moss and Logan both would have logged a fair amount of Innings at AAA as starters this season. Both have upside. Nova we dont know anything about since we didn't get to see him this season.

Yes we would have had the best rotation numbers wise that baseball has seen from a starting staff in a long time. Would we have won more games though? Reyes won more than I think Bauer would have for us in the end.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I very much want to feel better about the trade.

And in two months the Reds wont have Bauer, but we will have four years of Reyes, and six years of the other three.

Get back to me in a few years.

Twinkies take the division lead and now look like our first-round opponent.

..as of this morning.. A's/Indians.. Twins/Astros.. for the lower bracket. The Twins would LOVE this.. as they wouldn't have to face their playoff nemesis, the Yankees.. who would get the CWSox in their first round. Tampa/Jays round out the AL pairings..

The White Sox have three games against the Cubs this weekend. The Cubs are 32-24 but should have their division clinched by then and will be setting up for the playoffs. Still, if the Tribe wins tonight they're only a game back of Chicago. If the Indians sweep the Pirates while the White Sox go 2-1 or worse against the Cubs we would end up in second place due to winning the head-to-head against the Sox. That would put us in the 4th or 5th spot and avoid playing the Twins in the first round where they're 23-5 at home.

1, 2, 3 for the sox v plesac in the first 2 innings - jose stays hot with a double in the first and promptly gets picked off 2nd by grandal (indians baseball 2020) - bottom of the 2nd coming up

Sanchez takes Plesac yard in the third - 1-0 sox as we head to the bottom of the 3rd

Berto doubles with one out in the third.
Frankie walks with two outs...good at bat.

Hernandez goes full...ground rule double down the RF line. That cost us a run, but we are tied.
