2020 Series #4 [Battle of Ohio] Cleveland vs Cincinnati Aug 3rd-6th

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Congrats to my fellow friends of the feather that took the over. 11 hits! Good at bats working the count deep. There were signs this was coming. Now, let's get consistent!! We're off to see the smoking hot White Sox bats.

If Kipnis isn’t so far ahead of the pitch in the bottom of the 9th in Game 7, he’s a folk hero, with the status of Bill Mazeroski. Instead, he will fade into history as a slightly-above-average second baseman. Sigh.
yep. Kip had basically 7 years w/us. The first 4 were his best - 2 time all-star - actually finished top 15 in mvp vote - and we paid him 12 mil for those years - the last 3 he was awful in every phase of the game and we paid him $37,000,000 - killer contract for a team like cleveland - 10 year career so far - 2 above average, 8 average or (much) worse

in the weird statistics department...

The Tribe ranks first in MLB in Pythagoreum.

Sixth in both run margin and SRS.

In a regular season we would be on pace for 93 wins. After tonight's game we will be one quarter thru the season.
It is not that shocking -- we have a good team.
60 game season -- All the warts have been magnified to us onlookers, and I am sure some of the guys on the field feel an unnatural time crunch as they struggle. Last night was a bit of a relief to all involved, but we're right back at it tonight...Baseball!

A lot has been made over the years about the Tribes penchant for slow starts over the years under Tito.

Tonight we will hit the quarter post of the season.

After a quarter of the season...40 games...the Tribe has generally been a .500 team under Francona...either .500 or two games in either direction. There have been two outliers...a 17-23 (.425) record and a 23-17 (.575) record.

A win tonight would give the team the best comparative early start of the Tito era. A loss would give it a somewhat average start.

If history follows, that's not a bad position to be in....esp with a win.

moral of the story is to keep tito on the can?

btw, I always associated slow starts with wedgie more than tito

How long do we get to keep Sandy Alomar? He has to be in line for a Manager job? Is Tito's health going to make him retire anytime soon? Is Sandy the assumed replacement for him?

Because he's still here, I have to imagine he's turned down manager jobs to stick around and become the heir apparent to Tito.

The pessimist in me says once Tito is gone, the next manager will be a bargain pick - like a Manny Acta type. It all depends on Alomars price tag when the time comes, if he hasn't already left for a new gig. We might match a competitor's price, but I don't see us outbidding anyone on our next manager, whoever that ends up being.

I don't think there's anything based in reality that says the Indians are going to pick a worse manager because he demands a slightly lower salary--especially when the guy is already a part of the organization and has been around this club for roughly 30 years.

If that were the case, we wouldn't have Tito.

If Sandy didn't already have some assurances, I have to imagine he'd be gone. I don't believe he hasn't had the opportunity to take over elsewhere.

Two thumbs up to Alomar as the manager.

And the day can't come soon enough for some of us.

I do not believe it will be money that drives our next managerial pick...that said, it would seem to me Sandy is something of an heir apparent...may already be an unannounced plan in place with Terry’s health issues.

Alomar or Sarbaugh will be the next coach of the Indians once Francona retires. It will likely be once his current contract ends.

Good probability Alomar will be the manager while Sarbaugh is the bench coach, just like these last couple days.

Actually I truly disagree with you since Antonetti knows you have to have good coaches and leaders in place to have a great organization especially in a smaller market. He has seen what the Acta route does for you and what the Francona route does for you as well. No way is he going back to hiring the cheapest guy on the block. He will always want the best guy available that check marks as much as his checklist for a coach as possible.

Also if the organization transitions to like Alomar, it should be a smooth transition. Hire from outside it could cause more changes than necessary.

I don’t see a thread for the new series, so I will post tonight’s lineup here:
sort of surprised to see DeShiends, Mercado, and Zimmer all in the same outfield, but nobody else is killing it anyway...bring on the speed!

My guess is they feel that lineup will get the most hits/at least be some type of threat. At least there won't be a ball to fall anywhere in the OF if worse comes to worse since that should be their best OF defensively on paper.

Also if you dont see a game thread, you can post it yourself. I dont think we did a sign up for it this season so create them if you don't see them. If for whatever reason there is more than one we can ask our mod to fix it later (he's good about that)

You are now a member here, if you don't see a thread for a series, feel free to start one, we all pitch in and help....don't forget to turn off the lights when you are the last to leave a thread, lol (but seriously, you can start a new one)
