Is Zion officially the new Derrick Coleman?
Zion would be the crazy hybrid you’d get if Oliver Miller & Vince Carter had a lovechild.

We'll see. But it's wild to think that the main "consolation prizes" of that draft (namely Ja and RJ) are looking better at this point. It's a shame, because Zion being a big ass guard with Shaq mentality is still a very intriguing talent. But some of the comments was that we'd see exactly what we are seeing from him on the Pelicans.

Lonzo getting out of there was telling.

Zion has more important things to worry about other than basketball. I have only seen 2 guys looks like him. Oliver Miller and John Hot Plate Williams. He needs to get his health in order. He certainly is at risk for DM HTN OSA and reduced life expectancy.

Celtics Overlap
Speaking of skillset overlaps... Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum will never work together as long as they are the best two players on the team. Marcus Smart is speaking with the blessing and power of Brad Stevens office, so please don't assume he is available or speaking out of turn. Stevens had a interview yesterday and he spoke glowingly of Smart not just voicing what he did, but also putting in the work to communicate with Tatum and Brown after the interview individually. If Boston could acquire a floor general with enough respect/cache to make Tatum stop pounding the ball (as long as he plays this way, Brown is the better all around player who makes teammates better, but Tatum is unquestionably more talented with a higher ceiling) they can save their season and this Udoke era, however, the overlap between Brown and Tatum will remain. Rubio, John Wall, Ghost of Rondo (limited playing role but more lockerroom/mentor role) are three acquisitions they could make. Schroder is looking for a payday and the language barrier/lack of floor general in his game is exacerbating this.

Didnt Wade and Lebron overlap, or is Lebron got that skillset that it doesnt matter? I mean he is overlapping with Westbrook some, i think the adjust. Also I recognize that Wade is probably better than both Brown/Tatum so maybe the Jordan/Pippen overlap or Wade/:ebron doesnt count because when you have a goat?

Next rule change needs to eliminate the "Take a foul to stop fast breaks."

Then we might be set for a while.

Already a break away foul rule, not going to get any better than that.

Wade and LeBron very much did overlap, good call. I think it took about 20-30 games for Wade to willingly take a backseat to Bron and adjust his perimeter creator game to be more off the ball and operating as a midrange/move without the ball compliment to Brons perimeter/survey/creator Wade was used to doing.

Dallas embarrassed them into Bron adjusting the next year more and operating some in the high post.

I fully expect Bron to continue deferring to Westbrook early like he's doing now and taking over in the 4th like he did against the Rockets a few nights ago. He's so old and accomplished that he's willing to defer to him to chase his next ring but he probably shouldn't.

Tatum and Brown though... Both still blank slates on accomplishments and legacy.

It's going to take a hell of a lot more than Marcus Smart whispering in their ears to get them to adjust their overlapping strengths to compliment each other at this stage in their careers. The true irony is that Tatum is playing a terrible floor game and I 100% don't blame Brown or anyone else in Boston for trying to make him adjust his game more than Brown.

Didn’t Shawn Kemp get fat as well?

See this article -- lots of good stuff in here about reffing:

Lots of interesting discussion on the "non basketball moves" change, including that there is some pressure to reverse but the NBA is sticking to its guns. Then at the end they talk about "take" fouls on fast breaks:

Sources also confirmed to ESPN that on the competition committee call Tuesday, there was a discussion about the increase in "take" fouls -- the practice of grabbing a player intentionally to stop a fast break. Already a fairly common practice, it has been even more so this year. As a result, the committee agreed to attempt to come up with a potential rule change to eliminate the tactic. While such a change wouldn't happen this season, it could happen as soon as next season.

Is SuperSurge on the competition commitee :)?

Yes, he sure did, but not at 21 years of age. Zion has some very unique genes- he has short arms and his body naturally wants to gain weight, but he still has crazy hops & athleticism. The concern is that no one’s bones & ligaments were meant to withstand the type of weight & force that Zion puts on his body. Unless he can keep his weight under control, he, unfortunately, looks like an injury waiting to happen.

Mobley has that skinny frame which does limit his strength but reduces the pounding on his joints.

I've talked about Zion's health issues since his senior year in HS. He's had a lower extremity injury every year since his sophomore year. He's got extremely valgus legs, and a very pronounced waddle. When you couple that with his extremely violent style of play and all that weight, it's no wonder he has foot/joint/leg issues. Seeing the trajectory of his weight gain, I genuinely wonder if he has a thyroid issue, as well. Seeing how fast and how much he gains is concerning; especially considering how much his body uses for energy.

If he doesn't get his weight and play style in order, he's going to have a short career.
