If we don’t get a top 3 pick and end up getting a pick between 6-8 I will seriously consider not ever watching this league ever again. This new lottery system is a complete joke. I’m not saying it’s rigged but it has major flaws in it!

I feel like the draft lottery feels that much worse to us because Koby picked a defensive specialist last year and we aren't seeing the leveling up that we have seen in years past.

This time last year it felt like we could break out with the right pick. To me it feels like we have taken a step back from last year even with Garland and Sexton both developing in a positive direction. Cedi is riding the pines. Windler is hurt again. No KPJ. Okoro's development path is going to be a long slow road.

Is it really bad luck if they pick 7th with the 6th worst record?

Even under the old rules they were more likely to pick the mid-Lotto than anything else.

Last year is when the Cavs got screwed with the 5th pick its the second worst record.

But also yes, people should steel themselves. I think 8th is a number that keeps popping up. But also, what did people expect? This year was a bad year to only "kind of tank," because 3-4 teams are being utterly shameless in their quest to lose. No way the Cavs could, or should, compete with that mentality.

A considerable number of people have made the argument that, in actuality, there is no real difference between picking 3rd and 10th. Stars can be found anywhere. So, we get to probably find out!

And the year before that we got screwed when a 33 win Pelican team won the Zion sweepstakes. I believe we have been screwed by this new system the last three years!

Yeah, but they had so much luck after LeBron left that we may be drawing even.

We got Kyrie with the LA pick who were the 10th worse record while our second worst record got us the 4th pick. But we moved up 2 spots to 1st while picking THE WORST #1 pick in the history of the NBA for no reason at all. And we did get the #1 pick with the #9 spot in 2014 which got us K Love (we should have picked Embiid). Sure, we can complain about the last couple of seasons, but we have had out fair share of luck and fair share of massive fuck ups as well.

Why should we be pissed if we don't get a top 3 pick if we only have the 5th or 6th worst record?

We also won the 2003 lottery which was the most important lottery in NBA history.

If the NBA drafts strictly on record then people will complain about tanking being rewarded. To the extent there’s more randomness through a lottery people will complain about the randomness.

The reality is that there are fewer major superstars in the game than teams, and some teams have more than one. A large number of teams have no realistic path to the Finals for the foreseeable future. That’s why I’m not a member of the “Ring or Bust” club because it’s just not possible to acquire one of those superstars easily, especially if you’re not one of the major teams in destination cities. You need a lot of luck, which we got in 2003 and 2011 but can’t count on.

Didn’t say the ping pong balls hate us.....I made that very clear! I said this new lottery system has major flaws. And it does!
Ok, fine, tell us all about a lottery system that doesn’t have major flaws. The NBA has had several or you can design your own.

This is a completely different system than the ones that got us LBJ and Kyrie. All I’m saying any system that gives a 33 win team the #1 pick is flawed!
