2021 Series #28 | Indians @ A's | July 16-18

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If you thinks it's to our disadvantage to play ten game vs Minnesota while Oakland plays the Padres, Giants, and three extra games vs Houston, that's certainly you're prerogative.
I concede your point but suggest there are no guarantees about how Tribe will perform against “weaker” teams.

How is it possible Zimmer’s OBP is higher than Jose’s?

There are never any guarantees in baseball.

We are 14-7 vs the White Sox over the last two seasons.

We've discussed this in a different thread, but the WC is not as far fetched as you think.

We have by far the easiest schedule of the #2 WC contenders. Oakland, the leader who we just beat two out of three, has by far the most difficult.

It's difficult to paint a 3.5 game deficit as a stretch to overcome when the schedule favors us.
Not only did we take 2 of 3 from a very good Oakland team, we should have swept them. That was a good series against a good team. Even if we would have lost 2 of 3 I would have been impressed with this team's play.

@DCTribefan that 4.5 game WC deficit is now 3.5. It's certainly not insurmountable even if unlikely. Bieber and Civale can't get back fast enough though.

Would you honestly project the Tribe to beat the Chisox in a playoff series in 2021?

Can that be answered after the deadline and after Bieber and Civale return? Plesac is throwing well. Quantrill is throwing much better. What if they picked someone like Jon Gray up at the deadline? By then we would know more about the performances, or lack thereof of Zimmer, Mercado, and Johnson because today they look like it would be tough to replace them. That defensive alignment in the OF today was just ridiculous. Someone mentioned the strength of Zimmer and Johnson's arms, but Mercado's got a good one as well. I'm not trying to sell those 3 as saviors, but my curiosity is awakened by their recent play because if it's real and sustainable then this team can compete with anyone if the pitching staff is healthy.

This is a great position to be in as a Cleveland fan. It's like playing with house money because the expectations are kind of low, but the play is inspiring.

The negotiations for a new Oakland stadium make the Indians negotiations seem like little league by comparison.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but people in the East Bay aren't going to blink on this. The owner has Gap money and asked a lot more than the average from public funds, believing they can get more by moving. In that narrow paradigm, yes a city desperate for a baseball franchise will offer more.

Meanwhile it's Oakland - it's a gentrifying area that still has serious social priorities higher than baseball. The land he wants is some of the most valuable property in the country, and helping a tight-wad 60 year old who has never worked hard a day in his life get richer isn't sailing with the populus.

I fully expect Oakland to relocate,

How is it possible Zimmer’s OBP is higher than Jose’s?
Zimmer gets hit a lot (8 times already) and Jose refuses to take a walk, hacking at almost everything he sees. Jose is hitting .257, way below where he should be, while Zimmer is up to .241. Jose is too home run happy, swinging for the fences every at-bat and pulling everything into the shift which hurts both his BA and his OBP.

It's crazy to see that Zimmer has the highest OBP on the team by 32 points. I've always thought of him as the easiest player to get out, but he's actually the hardest.

In terms of runs created per 27 outs, Zimmer is 4th, behind Reyes, Jose, and Bradley. When you factor in his defense at a critical position he's really been a pretty valuable player in the time he's been in the lineup. Zimmer is quietly resuscitating his career this season. He's hitting .293 with runners on, .292 with RISP, and .500 with RISP and two out. He doesn't get a lot of hits but he gets them at good times.

Lately he's been adding power to the package. Only a couple of weeks ago he still did not have an extra base hit this season. He's hit four inthe last 13 games. He's been pretty stealthy about it but he's quietly putting together some good numbers, mainly the .374 OBP.

Nashville Athletics, here we come!
I'd think Vegas would be most likely. Even if they've already taken on two new teams including one from Oakland, it's clear where the money is at and there wouldn't be any need for any divisional realignment.

Nah. Portland is the obvious pick. When it comes to next mlb city it's Portland/Nashville as the 1a and 1b options. If the As are moving out of Oakland going up to Portland makes most sense and try to start a rivalry with Seattle
