2021 Series #29 | Indians @ Astros | July 19-21

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
approaching double digits out of the division race and the wild card race as the trading deadline approaches.. Some of our guys may be getting healthy.. or returning..but, that's a MIGHTY high mountain to climb..
Currently we are 5.5 games behind in the WC standings. That's hardly insurmountable should they somehow start playing better. I don't expect it to happen, but it's not too far "out there".

All kidding aside, this bunch of scraps have now played the best team in the AL tough in 2 of the 3 games. Regardless of tonight's outcome we could have easily been going into the St. Louis series having won 2 of 3 from Houston. Take that for what it's worth when contemplating where this team is.
FYI, we play Tampa the next 4 games, then 2 against St Louis.

btw.. our SS can't have his heels on the outfield grass and expect to get to a 17 hopper hit right at him in time to get a guy who can run like Straw.. Amed needed to be closer to double play depth for him.. maybe he will be if Straw gets up to bat again..

next year?

You gotta think some contender could use Cesar
The Indians have a club option for Cesar next season, so why dump him since the plan is for this team to contend in 2022. It’s not like Owen Miller has earned the right to be the everyday second baseman.

I'm gonna brag a littler here. My son was a freshman at the University of Findlay and had a pretty damn good season even though it was screwed up by covid. Anyway, Straw got down the line to 1B in about 4 seconds. That 6'1" 195lb kid of mine gets there well under 4 seconds consistently. I swear to God if he ever decides that he wants to reach his ceiling he might very well get a look. He's only 19 and will certainly continue to get better.

All that is true. But close doesn't count in baseball. The Indians give a good effort, but too much to overcome this season.

Are you saying that a 5.5 game deficit or greater has never been overcome in MLB with half of a season remaining?

That's a great tool to have! Send him to Driveline. Then you can gravy train his contact!
In all seriousness, good luck to him

We have so many prospects that can play 2B, that we need to let them have an open competition for it...

Thanks Mott! I'm not saying he's gonna get drafted. That happens so rarely that it's almost inconceivable. All I'm saying is that he's physically gifted and I don't know where it can take him if he puts in the work. I have no expectations other than he enjoys the game. I'll provide him with what he needs, but I can't be his motivation. You know what I'm saying?

Big Ern got gassed!
