2021 Series #30 | Rays @ Indians | July 22-25

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
My prediction re: today's game nearly came true, and I wish we could have gotten McKenzie the win. He's made serious progress since that last trip to the minors.

Also happy to see Bradley just hit for the situation instead of trying to hit a HR. He could make life a little easier on himself by not trying to rip everything.

Very satifying win to avoid the sweep. The biggest positives were the performances of McKenzie and Clase. McKenzie went six innings and allowed two runs, but it should have been one if not for Zimmer throwing to the wrong base in the second inning after a deep fly to center. The only other run McKenzie allowed was a home run to Nelson Cruz on a pitch that wasn't a strike. Just an outstanding performance and you can see him growing up right before our eyes. He's overcome his biggest problem which was excessive walks and now he's attacking hitters with a nice mix of high fastballs and low breaking stuff.

Clase is now trusting his slider as he threw it something like 10 times in 12 pitches against the three lefties he faced in the 9th. That strikeout of Wendle was really impressive because Wendle is hot and handles the bat extremely well. He couldn't hit Clase's slider. Once Emmanual can start mixing the fastball and slider the hitters will have no chance.

No Franmil and Josie today so the Indians were without their two most productive bats, but pitching, defense, and some clutch hitting at the end carried them through. Kudos to Harold Ramirez for getting the game tying hit after starting the series 1-for-15. Cesar has the home run to open the game and the single to start the winning rally. Zimmer had a game saving catch against Yandy and then Mercado got him the next time.

Great job by Shaw, Karinchak, and Clase to close it.

The Indians went 3-for-29 with RISP in the series and they continue to chase bad pitches and get themselves out at an alarming rate. That has to change.

I'm really looking forward to next year when the rotation will be Bieber, Plesac, Civale, Quantrill, and McKenzie with Hentges, Morgan, and Mejia continuing their development at Columbus while providing depth.
Great post, although both Mejia and Hentges are out of options next season, so we will likely see them in the Guardians bullpen to start the season.

I just read Bieber was transferred to 60 day DL. So, the earliest he can return is August 15th.

And it was very unlikely he would have been activated by then (8/15) anyway..
After getting back to some pitching shape Bieber is going to get a couple of rehab starts in the minors before returning to CLE..
He can still start a 30 day rehab assignment BEFORE 8/15/21..

Anyone else feel like it isn't unrealistic to think that we could have taken 3 of 4 if not for the untypical BP meltdowns, or am I grasping?

I am 5'9 and cant keep myself under 190ls after I turned 17

I'm 5'11 and I am built to be 200ish lbs lol so my 4.4 40 time wasn't too bad for my size

Grasping.

Hentges with the high heat out of the pen will make the back of our pen Shaw/Sandlin/Hentges/Karinchak/Clase.. in no particular order.. One more LHRP would solidify this pen... solidify, indeed..

We were up 4-1 in the first game but the bullpen game up three runs in innings 7-9 plus the ghost runner in the 10th.

In the second game it was 4-4 in the 9th when the roof caved in on Wittgren.

Yeah, we could have taken 3 of 4 with better relief pitching, but keep in mind that Tampa leads the majors in runs scored after the 7th inning and it's not even close.
