2022 American League Central Division Champions

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If Amed is here next season he'll be the every day SS. Arias goes to the Owen Miller role but even then what do they do with Freeman and then Rocchio?

They play SS over Amed, most likely.

Rocchio specifically represents a pretty significant upgrade defensively, IMO.

Amed can play for this team, but utilizing his position flexibility makes me think he could provide even more value while not restricting the development of the elite talent behind him.

Make no mistake, he may well wind up opening at SS and being pushed into the utility role over time.

If we are keeping Amed and June/July comes then he's going to be Tito's swiss army knife.

Oscar gets the most DH time
Kwan and Valera are everyday OFs
Rocchio is the SS candidate
Arias replaces Miller's role
Freeman replaces the Clement role
Straw becomes the dedicated 4th OF
Rosario fills in LF, CF, SS

Unfortunately guys like Brennan, Benson, Nolan has to wait to be plugged in due to injury.

Why not just turn Amed into the epitome of a utility player at the point Arias, Rocchio or Freeman take over as the regular SS?

Start him as the DH regularly, measure his level of comfort at every infield position or corner OF spots on days you want to flex someone else into the DH spot.

Play him wherever you believe he can be a capable defender.

LF - Kwan
DH - Rosario
3B - Ramirez
1B - Naylor
RF - Gonzalez & Nolan Jones
2B - Gimenez
SS - EYT (Elite Young Talent)
C - Naylor
CF - Straw

Sincerely, I'd rather have Brennan than Rosario on paper. Rosario lacks experience being an Utility Man. We have Brennan, Arias, Freeman, Jones etc... Brennan and Freeman on paper can produce similar WAR while Arias and Jones could add some pop to this lineup that we currently need, but don't have. If he was in a different part of his contract, maybe, but we need to find room for Martinez in that MIF crew in Cleveland...

Rosario has barely played outside of SS... Never played 2B and barely played any 3B, with so-so OF results. He's either at SS or he's off the team in my mind. We have way better defenders coming up and we have a bunch of contact based hitters as well. I don't think we can keep Rosario...

This ain't football. It's also his brother and Dennis Wyrick who are handling Shane. Not Drew.

Shane has no leverage. Unlike NFL players, holdouts don't work as a form of leverage to get your contract demands met in baseball.

Rosenhaus Sports is also trying to make in-roads in the world of baseball, as they only entered baseball agency 4 years ago. They only represent 2 players currently. They aren't going to take the same approach the football side of things takes, they are trying to build a brand in the baseball world. And yes, I understand as a sports agency you grow your business by taking care of your clients, the players, but you also can't burn bridges with front offices in your infancy.

It all depends on if Shane/RSR are hellbent on making it to free agency, which wouldn't match their actual actions with regards to their relationship with Cleveland or any message sent from either party.

Lindor and Bauer made it clear years before they were set to be free agents that they were going to hit the open market and wouldn't even entertain an extension. Obviously Lindor never did, but he also got paid everything him and his group wanted and then some by making the Mets bend over and take it.

That hasn't happened with Shane.

It's not wishful thinking. It's reality. There is absolutely a chance they can get something done.
Guardians have already laid the numbers out to Bieber and he said no. Bieber will command Sherzer/Verlander type money and the will get it. The Guardians can't do that. Don't care which Rosenhaus brother it is, they come from the same cloth....no hometown discounts.

I think the team will let him pitch here through 24 and try to win it all. Makes no sense at all to make a Clevenger type trade when the team already
has Rule 5 issues to deal with. Speaking of which, I think the same thing with Amed. They will keep him next year and hope Freeman, Rocchio or Arias will step up in 24.

I agree with almost all of this with the exception of Valera over Brennan. Brennan might be just as good if not better than Kwan. Valera had a nice year and the future is bright. But for next season. Brennan should be the right fielder.

Umm... Cleveland has controll over Bieber for the next two seasons... He won't get anymore than 30-35 million over the next two in total. If he bets on himself, then yeah he could get more, if he stays healthy... Any arm/shoulder injury, in the next year or so, he will lose millions... So it's the debate of taking the guaranteed 120 area over the next 5 years from Cleveland or betting on himself and getting more...

Numbers/studies have shown, it's better for the pitcher to take the guaranteed money now... Plus if he wants to stay in Cleveland, he has a legit chance of being in the playoff the entire contract. Isn't that what you want?

agree with most of this....

..however, there is uncertainty w/r to an extension offer to Bieber.. It's likely as you've stated.. We just don't know.. If Bieber's representation has presented a bottom line in the Scherzer or Verlander category.. then evaluating him for the CleFO value will be put in place and efforts at trading him will commence.. IDK if he'll be here through the 2024 season.. it would be nice..

The Rule V stuff... & losing guys that would otherwise be useful on lesser clubs is the price the Guardians pay for doing business..

w/r to the Freeman/Rocchio/Arias grouping.. 2024 may be a bit late.. but no later than that, imho..

Cleveland would get a haul for Bieber, so if they cannot agree to an extension, I think you take the haul...

It's not like we cannot go out and get a replacement for him as well... Make a couple moves, replace Bieber at the same time of upgrading the rest of the roster...

I'm going to stop you right there.

No, they haven't.

Do you think the Cleveland FO is willing to do the 5/120 area to keep Bieber?
I do believe they could get into that range with Bieber…50/50 they get together on a deal,…so let me know when you want to flip the “decision coin”.:chuckle:

Gotta say, when the ChiSux talked about how we would crumble……LOL!!!
Who’s doing the most crumblitic performance now? LOL!!!

I’m assuming some of the posters might not know who @Bimbo is ……Let me feel you in, he’s part of the GUARDIAN’S ORGANIZATION enough said……….
