2022 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That's great.

He has 185 PAs this season though. Not sure why you are using ABs to calculate K%, that's not how that stat is calculated.

And that is the lowest of his career percentage wise and thats at the highest minor league level. What do you think of Benson's season so far? Is it a fluke or has he legitimately improved?

I fell like most of us are curious about Myers and how he is doing as well, if I may be honest.

I don't see it as a fluke myself. He does have a pattern of being called up to a new level and being overwhelmed. Then, the next season when he repeats, doing basically what you'd hope of him. Seems to be happening here at AAA right now.

This is why I'd want him to just keep playing at AAA everyday instead of replacing a Mercado and ride the bench most games.

I believe he is a free agent at the end of the season, so we have to decide on him sometime this season otherwise he could walk. How are you planning on keeping him in 23?

Good news is it only June 1st, and there is plenty of season left to go.

As for Benson in 23, if he is a free agent, that is going to be a tough one for the FO to figure out, as I am sure there are plenty of shitty teams willing to give him a chance. At the same time, Valera will be that much closer for his try out.

Yep, I was calculating it wrong for both. Thanks for the heads up. My point was that Benson strikes out more than Call and that still holds true. Is that an issue? Maybe or maybe not. I don't get hung up on K% as much as others do. Production is what matters to me.

So which one of Call or Benson deserve a call up? As I stated before I don't really know. Looking at their numbers from this season one could determine Call is due to his lower K% and higher BB%. That isn't written in stone though. Benson has immense power and everyone here knows I love that. I think Call could be a bit more consistent with the bat. All guesses at this point.

A left handed Benson is not replacing the RH Mercado on this team.

Unfortunately you are right ……Right now he has Kwan and Palacios in front of him, not mention he’s not on the 40

Let's get the longer convo over here... lol

My biggest question, is Benson as a 4th OF better than Mercado? If you think he is, then that's not a bad flip because of options and years of control. I don't mind making a move like that at the end of the season since Benson will likely be a minor league free agent. If we are out I'd rather keep Benson (maybe Call) over the older Mercado ya know?

Benson was the type of hitting prospect like a Zimmer, whose upside was amazing, but almost no floor... He is starting to finally show improvement and he is having his best season honestly of his career at AAA... He has no qualms playing a solid defense as well and stealing bases for as big as he is. (Browns would try to bring him in as a TE if they could).

We also have a bottleneck of prospects as well to add for next season. Since this is a tryout year, why not keep him over Mercado and see what happens?

Want to see more in AAA like we saw in OGonz. Yes, his OPS is good but BA is still .260 over 28 days (would like it sustained longer or hotter for shorter period). Question is how humidor affects that OPS ... at least Oscar was 300 BA.

Question is what happens when Reyes comes back ... as Oscar came up for him. Benson isn’t coming up for RHB Mercado. It’s Benson or Palacios. Right now, Palacios is .326 which I would take. Long term, it’s Benson, Jones or Valera for power LHB RF. And, Palacios, Kwan, Brennan for LF which isn’t for sure Kwan over Palacios. Kwan/Brennan can be that 4th defensive OF guy if Oscar takes over as power RHB OF... lots of options. But, for sure, FO/Tito will continue to give guys a lot of chances like Kwan to get back to form which hurts Benson. As 4 OF is between, Straw, Kwan, Palacios, OscarG let alone OscarM/Benson.

I didn't think so either. If anything, having Benson on the ML roster would make a case to keep Mercado around. That and if they still have Mercado around then they must feel they need a RHH OFer.

Please don't mistake this as me suggesting which one is the better choice because right now I just don't know. Thing is, to find out they need to play, and if Benson is going to get an opportunity then what better time(same scenario as OGon)? Me personally, I like Kwan and Palacios, but both are not needed on this roster if one can be replaced with a more productive hitter.

Reyes' return likely has nothing to do with Gonzalez. Unless he falls flat on his face offensively he'll be going nowhere. I'm not sure who goes when Franmil returns. My guess would be either Palacios or Mercado. I only say Mercado because they have both Rosario and Clement who have played LF this season.

I see Benson's window of opportunity open for a very brief period of time if it opens at all. They already have Kwan, Palacios, Rosario, and Mercado for LF. Jones is returning any day now. Valera is tearing up AA. There's a shit ton of prospects/players that will need to be moved in order to avoid a 40 man crunch. My guess is that Benson's best chance lies with another team unless he gets his shot real soon. Pretty much exactly how I felt about OGon.

I agree Benson's window is small and closing fast. And, as he is minor league FA at year-end (7th season inc 2016) so we may lose him anyways regardless of Rule5. I just know he is streaky, so like to see a little more. I am not bothered if they bring him up for look see but OGonz deserves one of 4 OF slots for now (see how he does as pitchers start to figure his zone out). Palacios is not 4th OF defensive role but .326 BA is nothing to sneeze at (inc 5 of last 9 ab in 7 days - also deserves look). He may go back down to work on defense but I can see 2 of Kwan, Brennan, Palacios long term if non-starter in LF is the defense replacement to Oscar/Valera in RF.

However, if Benson's May of .250/.900 is worthy of look, how about Fry's .323/.911 or Tolman .304/.917? I know you don't mind the age but is 1 month of Benson's 4th highest Columbus hitter worthy of it? Can see if he does another month or two but we don't know if the stars just aligned this month for Clippers and they got lower end pitchers on average to puff up stats in May. Dont know ....

For next year, I wouldn't mind for 11 non-catcher positions
Ramirez, Gimenez, Arias, Jones infield w Naylor DH
Kwan, Straw, OscarG/Valera, Palacios in OF
Miller, _______ where Valera/OscarG, Clement, Brennan, Freeman battling it out for last spot

that is a strong lineup with guys like Miller getting plenty of time as super utility or at 2nd instead of Arias or 1B versus lefties instead of Jones.

Good day for questions. Fire away.
Draft question last year we went pretty much all pitching, is that a new philosophy with the Organization, Would it be no surprise if we did that again……I no we usually go heavy in the International draft with position players , but they usually years away….

which prospects do you see as future guardians and which are prime trade chips?
