2022 NFL Draft Round 1

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I remember when Browns fans cheered when Lamar went to the Ravens, too. I'll wait for Pickett to actually play and struggle before I go gloating over this. Only good news is it means Lil Gunslinger doesnt end up there.

Lamar was a Heisman winner and two-time finalist. Was a true junior in the draft, so significantly younger than Pickett with more accomplishments. If that Lamar was in this draft, he goes top 10, maybe top 5.

Pickett might not even have been in the CFL after his senior year at Pitt. He blew up in the extra year he got from Covid.

Yeah, Lamar was quite easily a better prospect than any QB in this class and he went 32nd. Pickett benefited greatly from being in the worst QB class in a generation. He is nowhere near a 1st round talent in any normal draft class.

Also, Browns fans were most definitely not celebrating the Ravens drafting Lamar. That is simply a fabrication. One can easily go back and look at the posts on RCF - I know for I fact I was annoyed as hell that the Ravens got him.

Other than the AZ/ Ravens trade, no draft compensation was outrageous compared to the SF/ Bears trade ups for QBs last year. The SF 3 #1s for an unknown at the time #3 pick last year really looks like an outlier. The lack of talent of QBs hurt draft value. compensation.

I think if the Saints had waited closer to the draft this year to make their swap with the Eagles for the extra first round pick they would have given up less future draft resources to do it.

There seems to be a lot of value in the 35-75 and 75-110 ranges compared to earlier in the draft were teams see an opportunity to grab 2-3 very solid contributors instead of one with a few less warts.

So the Vikings went back TWENTY spots (12 > 32) for just a 2nd round pick swap and a 3rd rounder?

And to do it with the division rival Lions... what is Kwesi thinking? Maybe it's just me, though.

That was the worst trade of the first night for me.

How do you move down 20 spots in the first round and only gain a net 3rd rounder? Absolutely horrible IMO.

Had the Browns not made the Watson trade and were sitting at 13...

I think they would have traded 13 to Philadelphia for 15, 124, 162 and 166 like Houston did and then picked Burks at 15.

And to follow up on this, I suspect the Browns would have taken a QB today had the Watson deal not happened.

It would have been a lot less draft capital to have kept the picks and drafted Willis in a sense, but at the same time, talent wise, we wouldn't have nearly got as much and we would have had to decide between Mayfield or a rookie to be the starter...

I think it would have been a disaster to bring on a top 50 drafted rookie QB behind Mayfield, but it seems like they were comfortable doing just that. So who knows?

Glad it didn't workout that way.

Michael Thomas is a dick too. The talent is there, though, and that’s all that really matters.

At least now I know why Pickens was so much more highly rated by Browns Twitter than the scouting community... tribesmen recognize their own.

I don’t think so. My guess is they would’ve loaded up on weapons, gave Baker one last go, and then sell out next year for a QB if Baker flopped.

Actually, looking back at who was on the board, I think we would’ve taken Kyle Hamilton or traded back a couple spots and taken Burks. Hamilton would’ve been a great fit in our D, and with him and JOK you’d have two guys capable of hanging with the top TE’s.

Completely shocked the Steelers selected Pickett. An egregious number of anonymous scouts, GMs and ex-girlfriends are saying Kenny’s hands are not “twitchy” at all.
