Excellent observation. I was going to post something similar. No good reason to take the opening kickoff in OT now unless you feel scoring first gives you a psychological edge. Personally, I think this new rule is an overreaction to the KC Bills game last year. But, it is here now and defending first makes the most sense.Would probably benefit teams to kick off first in OT so they know exactly what they need on their possession to win.
Kind of like college OT.
I would also expect the team getting the ball 2nd to go for 2 and the win if they give up a TD on the opening possession.
