Having won 7 of 8 the Guardians return home for a rematch of last week’s series against Detroit, where the G’s swept the Tigers 3-0 in the Motor City. The games were close and low scoring with two one-run wins and a 5-2 win.

At home the Guardians are 4-1 against Detroit, having outscored them 28-10 at the Prog. Overall the Guardians are 29-22 at home while the Tigers are 17-40 on the road.

More recently the Guardians have won 8 of their last 9 while the Tigers have lost 13 of 15. They are in free fall and just playing out the string, 30 games under .500.

They have shut down their best starter, Tarik Skubal, for the season due to a tired arm. The four starters who will be pitching in this series have a combined three wins on the season. Two of them do not have any wins.

The Tigers are last in scoring and they’re worse on the road, averaging 2.67 runs per game. They are also last in walks, home runs, and slugging percentage. In last week’s series against the G’s they scored 7 runs in 3 games.

Individually, some of the Tigers have hit Cleveland pitching pretty well, led by Harold Castro at .385. Of his 15 hits 11 were singles and he only has 3 RBI's. Miggy is 14-for-42, or .333, but those hits consist of 13 singles and a double. He has 9 RBI's on those 14 hits so he tends to make his hits count. Victor Reyes is hitting .320, but all 8 hits have been singles. The Tigers have 8 home runs against the Guardians this year in just under 500 at-bats. They have averaged 3.5 runs per game against Cleveland but only 2.0 runs at Progressive.

In today’s first game Aaron Civale goes against RHP Drew Hutchison, 1-6, 4.45. Hutchison has started three times against the Guardians this season, going 15 innings with a 4.80 ERA. Lefties are hitting .272/.810 against him. Opponents are hitting .316 off him with RISP.

Civale went four innings against the Tigers last week in his first start in a month after injuring his wrist. He allowed 3 hits and 2 runs, throwing 62 pitches. They’ll probably try to stretch him out to 75-80 today.

The second game will feature the major league debut of Xzavion Curry. It’s about time we got to see one of our prospects! In six starts at Columbus the 24-year-old right-hander is 3-1, 3.09. In his last two starts in Columbus he pitched 13 innings and allowed 5 hits and no runs for a .119 opponent’s batting average.

The Tigers will counter with Bryan Garcia, a 27-year-old right-hander with a career line of 5-3, 5.73. He was strictly a relief pitcher until this season when they brought him up July 29, probably to replace Skubal. In two starts with the Tigers he went 7.2 innings allowing 2 runs. His last start he pitched four scoreless innings against Tampa allowing just one hit. He’s pretty wild, walking 8 batters in 7.2 innings so plate discipline is in order for the Guardians. I think they’re hoping he can go five innings and keep them in the game.

Given the Tigers’ abysmal record on the road and the fact that the Guardians are red hot while the Tigers have lost 13 of 15 this series appears to be a huge mismatch. However, the Guardians still have to play well to win as they eked out three close ones in Detroit. I definitely want to see them score more than four runs per game like they did last week. The Tiger’s bullpen was effective in that series. After giving up three runs in the first game they went 10 scoreless innings. If there is one area where they are not bad it’s the bullpen.

Also, Bieber and McKenzie will not be pitching this series.

Its difficult to sweep a four game series, no matter how mismatched the two teams seem to be.

But it would be big to do so.

With Chicago hosting Houston for four games and then coming to Cleveland for three, we really have an opportunity to put a lot of daylight between the White Sox and us.

Way too early for the word crucial, but this is an important week. After playing Houston, Chicago has only nine games left vs winning teams outside the division. This is one of those week to make hay while the sun shines.

Perhaps Currys biggest drawback is his penchant for giving up home runs. He checks about every other box. But If he doesn't fix that problem, he won't cut it in MLB.

Going against Detroit in his debut is a good way to break in.

With an off day Thursday and another one Monday, bullpen usage isn't quite as critical as it was earlier, when so many games were shoehorned together.

We are looking at a far more normal schedule the rest of the way.

Don’t forget JRam was DH on Sunday while Gimenez was out of the lineup.

I suspect Amed gets a DH game soon..

Great we get to see Miller at 1B again against righties

Myles Straw.

No Gimenez's mom is responsible for snacks and juice box's, not Straw's mom. Trust me, I checked the flyer that coach sent home, 100% its Gimenez's mom .
