I don't even think he should be playing every day but he does have a strong place on a MLB roster, and yes it is a slump. His xwOBA is 32 points higher than his wOBA so even in this season where he's been making worse quality contact, a lot of his struggles can be attributed to luck. Without the luck he'd be more of a 3rd/4th OF on an average team and probably more like 4th OF with the way he's been trending lately. Toronto has both Jackie Bradley Jr. and Bradley Zimmer on the same roster pretty much for OF defense alone and I'm not going to make you appreciate MUH PLUTONIUM GLOVE or whatever you sarcastically call it, but by objective measures he's been the best defensive outfielder in baseball over the last 2 years."Slump"
Over 1/3 of his career ABs are in this season where he's put up a .520 OPS. This is who he is at this point. The calls for patience are curious considering we've been watching this since April.
The most pathetic part about this Myles Straw debacle on here is how people only insist on further digging in. Tell the truth. He was a mistake. You oversold his talent. He doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the MLB roster. I was a Bobby Bradley fan. Watch this. That was a mistake. I over-estimated his talent. He doesn't deserve to be anywhere near this MLB roster.
Just doubling down, doubling down in the face of the worst season in 32 years of Major League Baseball. Re-evaluate your lives people. Is "winning" an argument on this website worth sounding like such a completely unreasonable, selfish, crazy person?
I guess so.
"Slump." Lies after lies after lies.
I'm calculating an estimate of his wRC+ at 74 rather than 52 with a luck adjustment. Definitely not ideal and still #9 hitter territory but I don't see a legitimate argument against the current approach which is: give him significant days off hoping that either he or Benson will show something, and then if we somehow make the playoffs, hopefully figuring out who we'd rather put forward. For all the hate he's getting he still has 0.8 fWAR this year which is still significantly above what a "replacement" option might be.
Anyway though, most of your attacks are pure straw man attacks and then you also make these silly assertions about the Myles Straw pandemic causing the rest of the offense to suck, too. Thankfully, most of us just don't care to echo your kind of behavior or you could be hit pretty hard for dumb comments like that.
