2023-2024 Buckeye Basketball

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lunardi is generally pretty good. He has them in his "next 4 out" category after today.

Which means at least they're in the field of play for a bid I guess.

If A&M can win the SEC tourney it could help, maybe.

Fucking officials last night very possibly cost the Bucks the Big 10 tourney championship.

No. No conduct an actual search. Wait till the offseason when you can access a wide variety of candidates......

Very happy for the guy, however @Rich is correct. You have to find out who is willing to pick up the phone as some major fish could be out there who'd surprisingly come to Columbus. Especially with NIL money being tossed around in this region.

Just think of the flux of Kelly suddenly jumping ship to become OC and leaving UCLA seemingly without warning.
You don't know until you make those calls. The important factor as a new AD is to make those calls, start building out relationships with potential hires, ESPECIALLY in the event Jake Diebler doesn't work out well in the coming seasons. To not have an interview process is very reactionary, irresponsible, and potentially immensely short sighted.

I do think Jake is qualified as I've loosely followed him since his days at Upper Sandusky when Jon was putting up like 42 ppg as a Freshman and Sophomore already as Jake was the teams PG and his dad their coach. Hopefully he's able to build a fence around Ohio like Thad Matta had and start getting consecutive Mr. Basketball Ohio recruits to don the Scarlet & Gray!

CAVS tidbit: "The one bright spot for Diebler during his time at Vanderbilt, however, was in his recruiting efforts. He was the primary recruiter for 5–star point guard Darius Garland, who committed to Vanderbilt on November 13, 2017"

He might be the guy, but it reminds me an awful lot of all the NFL and NBA teams where a franchise fires an unpopular coach mid-season, the team goes on a mini-run for a few weeks, and then the guy gets hired full-time as seemingly a default decision without much thought put into it.

Why not make the calls to guys like Cronin, Miller, May, Grant, etc.? Just seems odd to make that decision so quickly when he has zero experience building a program. You might get through it and Diebler is still the best choice, but now you don’t know.

Doesn't make sense to me.

Ohio State should have higher expectations than to just settle for a guy like this before interviewing other candidates.

Also, NC State winning probably kills any small hope of making the tourney.

Would be rad if they can make some noise here in the NIT, from a mainting momentum standpoint perhaps that's superior to potentially being a one & done as a double digit seed in the big dance.

Perhaps I'm huffing on some scarlet copium...

Watching this Auburn vs Florida game, don’t follow college ball much, but these are elimination games right? Teams don’t play on neutral courts?

Looks they are the highest rated Big Ten team NOT in the "64", and I also forgot the NIT changed their selection process, so that is really significant. One site had them as an NIT #3 seed.

All in all, being in the NIT does many things, all good. Continues the end of the season momentum, gives Diebler a new, heightened environment to be exposed to, may help a little with recruiting, gives the boys a more realistic opportunity to advance deep in the tourney.... glass is half full.
