2023-24 Playoff Series #1 | Game #3 | Cavs @ Magic | April 25, 2024

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Some poor performances all around and as a team, but of particular note: Garland 5 points in 31. Inutes on 2 for 10 shooting and lackluster defense; Strus with 4 points on 2 for 6 shooting with 1 assist and 1 rebound in 24 minutes, Okoro a complete no-show regressing to games of years gone by with 0 points in 16 minutes, Niang scoreless until garbage time

DG has been our best screen setter this series. This is the most physical he's played since his jaw injury by far. Your complaint at his volume of 3's should be directed at the person running the offense. We run an offense with two Centers and an undersized SF who has only hit 1 3 pointer in the entire series btw.

Saying he's mentally weak and too passive when his shot making in game 2 is what ultimately put the game away sounds a little haterish but I digress.
Im not hating on DG by any means. In fact I want him to succeed more than anyone and I have laid off on going to harsh on him when other folks have criticized ( and rightly so) his game and mental fortitude.

And yes, I agree that our offensive system is mostly to blame as to why he's not being utilized the right way, but for a max player who essentially has been handed the keys to the franchise, I don't think it's unfair to criticize his decision making, his attitude and his instinct to win. When he has been punched in the mouth ( no pun intended) he folds. If Donovan is struggling, he should be the go to guy.

Embiid showing why Cavs/JBB wanted no part of him and instead elected for Paulo.

He would've been a good fit for us. Strus is an average player for us and that's the problem. While everybody was busy making fun of Kelly Oubre because of his personality people were overlooking that he is a legit 6'7 wing with length that can defend big wings.

Strus is a SG that can't create on his own and is undersized for the lineups that we run.
Oubre is shooting 31.1% from 3 and is in the bottom tier of any defensive metric their is..

Ideally Strus is probably in the 6th man role that LeVert is in this year and LeVert is moved for a better SF but Oubre isn't a hill worth dying on..

How has DG been handed the keys to the franchise with Don here?

Also, there is no go to guy in this offense because we don't have a system. You can't make an offensive adjustment when you're just winging it.

Entire team no showed the second the Magic went on that run. Which is wild because they started off fine...

If you look beyond the stats Oubre is a better fit because it would've allowed us to build a stronger bench and it would've gave our starting lineup more length.

I don't disagree with your ideal role for Strus by if that's ultimately what he is which I believe to be the case, trading for him and starting him was a mistake.

It didn’t matter who we played. With JBB we were gonna lose to every team in the playoffs

Part of the reason that they started off well though was because the Magic shot so poorly in the first 6 minutes; yet, the Cavs failed to capitalize on that (a) by giving up so many offensive rebounds and (b)by not hitting some good looks that could have / should have really stretched that lead
