2023-24 Season | Game #11 | Pistons @Cavs | Nov. 17, 2023 | 7:30 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Gonna have to win tonight if we want to have a chance at continuing past the group phase.

Apparently Detroit has pretty much zero healthy shooters so everyone has been doubleor triple teaming Cade, and that strategy seems to be working. (Also this is the excuse for Cade's poor efficiency).

So it will be interesting to see if the Cavs have done their homework and if that will be our strategy...

My expectation....it won't

The Cavs return home from their western swing with a Friday night game against the 2-10 Pistons, owners of the NBA's worst record and a 9-game losing streak. The Pistons have some injuries as they are without starting center Jalen Duran (12.6 pts, 10.6 rebounds), SF Joe Harris, and SF Bojan Bogdanovic. PF Marvin Bagley III is day-to-day.

PG Cade Cunningham leads the Pistons with 21.3 pts and 7.3 assists. The #1 pick in the 2021 draft played in only 12 games last year. He's shooting just 40.2% from the filed and 29.7% on 3's. He's more of a passer than a shooter at this point.

Garland and Mitchell are listed as game time decisions and Okoro is out.

The Pistons rank 23rd in scoring offense and 19th in scoring defense.

No time to go into more detail as I am dealing with something today. If anybody is familiar with the Pistons maybe they could chip in.

From Ethan Sands at cleveland.com:

One of the primary objectives for the Cavaliers in this upcoming game will be to contain the dribble penetration of Cade Cunningham. Cleveland has encountered difficulties this season when dealing with top-tier guards like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and De’Aaron Fox, both of whom have exploited their speed and ability to finish at the rim to challenge the Cavs’ defense. In their recent victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen emerged as defensive anchors, tallying a combined six blocks. Cleveland will heavily rely on their presence in the paint to establish dominance, while players like Mitchell, Caris LeVert, and Max Strus will be tasked with disrupting Cunningham’s perimeter game.

I would start porter and Bates......talk about a shit fest

Cades numbers have been bad but I dont think he is as bad as the numbers say. Some of NBA Twitter has turned on him so it's weird to say I'm higher than him on some people now. He has no spacing to work with. As long as Wiseman, Hayes, and Bagley 3 keep getting minutes they won't win many games

This should have been a guaranteed win that gets us to 6-6.

Now? If Mitchell isn't playing it's probably a loss.

We will put Wade on Cade - nice rhyme - and basically make it his only job to make sure Cade doesn’t go off. If he can do that (he was damn good with a similar assignment on Grant) its hard to see Detroit generating a lot of offense. But if we are down both DM & DG, we will also have a hard time generating a lot of offense. We may need to win this like we are playing the Pistons from the Bad Boys era. First to 100 may win - heck first to 90 might win.

It sounds like a battle between two injured teams and the recipe for a sloppy game. If we play well, we'll blow them out. If we're sloppy, we can lose.

Garland and Mitchell are game time decisions. I think at least one of them will play.

I also think we'll win 113-101

Some background from Keys to the Game:

The Pistons come to town riding a nine-game skid, their last win coming against the Bulls back on October 28. Like the Cavaliers, Detroit is looking for its first In Season Tournament victory and snap the league’s longest losing skein in the process.

The Cavaliers swept all four games from the Pistons last season, have won five straight and 10 of the last 13. Cleveland welcomes the World Champs on Sunday night before heading to Philly for a nationally-televised IST matchup on Tuesday.

Edit: It looks like Mitchell is playing.
