With a four-game win streak in tow and having won 6 of 8 the streaking Cavaliers return home for the second night of a back-to-back against an even hotter Miami Heat. The Heat have won 8 of 9 and are 9-5 overall. In addition, they were off last night while the Cavs had to play an overtime game in Philadelphia and then travel.

Garland and Strus played 44 and 43 minutes last night, so the Cavs’ starting guards will be worn out. Everything points to a Miami win. However, if Mitchell or LeVert can return from injuries it would help tremendously.

The Heat are led by Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro, each averaging between 21-23 ppg. Duncan Robinson averages 15 points and nobody else is in double figures. Kevin Love is averaging 17 minutes per game. The Heat are only 24th in scoring so obviously they’re getting it done with defense. They rank 7th in opponents points per game. This should be a low scoring contest.

Injuries will be a big factor as Herro is out and Adebayo is a game time decision. Love is out for personal reasons. If Adebayo can’t go it would be huge since Herro is already out so the Heat would be missing two of their top three scorers.

Mitchell and LeVert are listed as game time decisions. The availability of Mitchell, LeVert, and Adebayo will have a lot to say about the outcome of this one.

If Adebayo plays the matchup between him and Jarrett Allen will be a key factor. Allen is coming off two great games against Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid.

If Adebayo is out then Jimmy Butler, age 34, will have to carry an even bigger load. Butler is off to a great start, averaging 47% overall and 42% on 3’s. Duncan Robinson is shooting 43% on 3’s an averaging 15 ppg, while 37-year-old Kyle Lowry comes off the bench to hit 43% from deep.

Miami only averages 110 ppg, so if Herro and Bam are both out they will be really challenged offensively as they will be missing 46 points and 15 rebounds.

Defensively the Heat rank 8th in opponents’ points in the paint per game but they are 24th in opponents 3-point percentage. It’s generally better to shoot from outside against them, but if Bam is out the Cavs will have a big advantage in the paint.

Pretty much everybody on the Heat is between 6’5” and 6’10” with the exceptions of Kyle Lowry and Dru Smith, who come off the bench.

How fired up will Strus be for this game?

We haven’t lost at home this month. It’s going to be tough coming off an emotional win in Philly but team morale has to be sky high and we need to feed the bigs.

Another tough battle for us. I’m a huge Jimmy Butler fan but can’t stand Riley. Let’s beat these bums!

Too bad that Love is out -- was intrigued to see how he and Strus would do against their former teams.

BTW, this may surprise some, but I haven't actually watched the Heat yet this season; been saving all my hoop energy for my much more interesting Thunder. I do know from some articles I read that Spo briefly benched Love for a few games for Highsmith because Love can't guard forwards anymore (not that he ever did, lol). What Spo did was bring Love back into the rotation eventually as a backup center to Adebayo. Love's stats looked good in the last game against the Bulls, but overall, he's really struggled with his shot so far this season. It's probably a good thing he isn't playing tonight because the Cavs bigs would eat him alive.

As you said Wham, the availability of Mitchell and LeVert is key to predicting this one.

Expect to see more Craig Porter in any event. He has the least minutes and the most energy.

I've always felt we matched up well with Miami. Our two bigs can't be stopped with a team without two bigs--if we can get the ball to them and if we hit open 3s.

Miami has excellent on ball defense and collapses inside. Our bigs and our guards must work together, all of them, to penetrate their defense.

Both Allen and Mobley turn the ball over when they bring the ball down inside. Garland tries to push passes into congestion, causing turnovers. Keep the ball and the hands up, and we win.

I won't give a score prediction right now. I will say this one feels like a 50-50 game.

Correct me if I am wrong, but given the opportunity, wouldn't you eat Kevin Love alive too?

Mitchell is officially OUT; LeVert is QUESTIONABLE and Wade is DOUBTFUL (ankle sprain); Okoro and Jerome are also OUT (of course). On the Miami side, Adebayo has been upgraded to PROBABLE

Who starts at SF if Wade is out? Is it Emoni time? CPJ and move Sturss back and go small? Let the unicorn fly and put Mobley on Butler and start TT...ok that one is a bad idea, lol

And if Craig Porter does start, no one should say its CP Time, that actually means something different and probably dont want to go there. :chuckle:

I saw Wade working the ankle on the side line, so knew something was bothering him as early as the first half, but honesty didn't think it was serious enough to miss time the way he played the rest of the game. Props to him for toughing it out last night. But the old days of "tape it up and get out there" are definitely gone.

my guess on tonight’s lineup..

Garland • CPJ • Strus • Mobley • Allen

So both Merrill and Bates have to play if all of those players sit as JBB will have no other options.

Is there any clarity on Okoro’s injury ?

Seems like all I can find is “knee soreness”

Which like I understand injuries are injuries but I don’t really just think of knee soreness resulting in being out for 3 weeks.

Is there something more I’m missing ?

Tired team, Garland on a backer is bad. Emoni save us???
