2023-24 Season | Game #2 | Thunder @ Cavs | Oct. 27, 2023

hot take: that might not be the worst thing in the world even if he is basically giving the team LeBron stats

JBB needs to somehow communicate to Donovan that YOLO ball in crunch time is bad

JBB needs to create a situation where Donovan has a good alternative to YOLO in the crunch. It’s called coaching - you design plays, diversify your offense to use everyone’s skills, etc. Right now I don’t think it’s Donovan’s fault

Strus has a lifetime 37.3% three point percentage in the regular season. Last game he shot 7-13, over 50%. This game he shot 2-11, to take him to 9-24 for the year…right back at 37.5%, basically his lifetime average lol. That’s percentages for you, up one game, down another, but it all evens out.
Still better than anybody else we’ve had the SF position and more of threat that scares other teams than what we’ve had.

He doesn't get a lot of opportunities because of the backcourt being so ball-dominant. Other potential stars get fed the ball specifically to push their development. That doesn't happen with Mobley.
Even when he gets his chances/touches he does very little with them.

Did you watch the last 5 min? They only guy who didn’t shit himself was DM.

Strus bricked a layup, Mobley got stuffed by Chet, and there was a bad turnover. Without Mitchell this is a 7-10 seed.

The bad TO was Mitchell lol.

Lots of complaining on players and coach, but this game was lost by the refs. This was the words officiating I have seen in awhile.

Cavs are fine, they played pretty well with 2 starters out. Need to hit more 3s

I really do hate to be this guy over and over but good lord some of this ref bitching.

The Cavs spent significantly more time on the perimeter than the Thunder. To the tune of shooting TWENTY more 3s than they did.

Guess which team shot more FTs and had fewer fouls called on them, despite that?

SGA, who averaged 10 FTs a game last season, shot 2 last night.

The loss last night was entirely on JBB. How you don’t do the most basic thing and defend the 3pt when they were clearly needing threes in indefensible. There were definitely some calls where the arena wanted to get on the court and strangle a ref, especially the woman as she had some gems. But overall we went to the line more and had a 10 point lead towards the end. Game should have been in the bag if the scheme was to run three point shooters off the line.

There is no way you watched that game and said the reffing was quality. Okoro committed a foul visculously attacking chet's foot with his face. Fuck outta here

That’s a terrible loss. The first of many winnable games JBB will lose this year. When you lead by 9 with under 2 minutes, you should win. No excuses.

Roll out the barrel! Roll out the barrel of fun!

Yuck. We lost the lead at home in the 4th. Donovan had a great game and made up for Garland's missing points. But we missed Garland's playmaking. Our defense was better, our rebounding was better, but we didn't another scoring threat in the starters. Strus was off. Mobley rebounded well, but shot poorly. Holmgren blocked him 3 times, I believe. Wade and Okoro helped, but together they only got what Okoro got against the Nets.

LeVert was good off the bench, but he accounted for 17 of our 22 bench points.

Not enough scoring. We needed another threat beside Donovan.

Certainly, but my one criticism of Donovan is not his ability to bail. He can make the shot, so I understand it. But more often than not, if he is the only playmaker on the floor (when DG is out for example), it's not often he moves the ball to guys moving to open position, and too often I'm seeing him going into a packed paint.
