Coming off an overtime win over the first place T-Wolves, who were on the second night of a back-to-back on the road, the Cavs take on the Brooklyn Nets, also on the second night of a BTB on the road. The Cavs enjoyed a rest day at home. Sometimes the schedule is in your favor.

Brooklyn is 25-39 overall, 9-21 on the road, and has lost 11 of their last 16. They are 0-3 against the Cavs this year, having lost the season opener and then two more in January and February. They are playing their 3rd game in four nights.

The Nets are in 11th place, a full 4.5 games out of 10th place and the last play-in spot with 18 games to play. They’re in desperation mode. Or maybe not. It's probably better to get into the draft lottery than finishing in 10th place with the best case scenario having to play the top seed in round one.

Ben Simmons is for the year, Cam Johnson is out, and Lonnie Walker IV is a game time decision. The Cavs will be missing Mitchell, Mobley, and Strus, so neither team is at full strength.

The Nets are a decent team defensively, ranking 15 in scoring defense. They defend the 2-point shot very well, ranking 7th, but the 3-pointer is another story as they rank 25th at 37.9%. They’re below average at forcing turnovers (23rd).

Offensively they rank 24th in scoring at 112 ppg. They shoot a lot of 3’s (8th in 3-rate) but are average in accuracy. They’re only 26th in two-point accuracy. The Nets are 24th in pace, 22nd in effective field goal percentage, and 23rd in points in the paint.

The Nets should have trouble scoring against the Cavs as they are 24th in points per game while the Cavs are 3rd in scoring defense. In their three games against Cleveland the Nets are averaging just 103.3 ppg.

Cam Thomas and Mikal Bridges lead the Nets in scoring, each averaging 20.9 ppg. Against the Cavs they average 26.3 and 24.0 points, respectively. Dennis Schroeder averages 14.6 points on 46% from the field and 51% from deep. Cam Johnson averages 13.8 points, but is out with an ankle injury. C Nic Claxton averages 12.2 points and 9.8 rebounds. PF Dorian Finney-Smith averages 8.9 points. Lonnie Walker IV averages 11.4 points but he is questionable for tonight.

The Nets lost in Charlotte last night 110-99. Charlotte is now 16-48. The Hornets allow an average of 117 ppg but the Nets only managed 99. Tonight they are playing the second night of a BTB after a long flight from North Carolina while the Cavs have been resting. Schroeder and Bridges played 39 and 41 minutes. Their bench scored just 15 points and they shot 40% from the field.

It looks like everything is in the Cavs’ favor - they’re the better team, they’re at home, and they were off yesterday while the Nets had to play and travel. The Nets lost to a 16-48 team by double digits last night and will be playing for the third time in four days. The Nets starting point guard played 39 minutes while their best scorer played 41. On paper it’s an easy win, which means they’ll struggle and be fortunate to escape with a win.

Jesus Christ, that sucks. So...Allen, Niang, Okoro, Merrill, and Garland starting. With a bench of LeVert, Porter, and Jones? Yikes. Perhaps Bates finally gets some minutes tonight?

Is Isiah Mobley still with the team?
He was on the bench in the Timberwolves game. He also played last night for the Charge against the Motor City Cruise at the Wolstein Center. He had 15 points and 10 rebounds in 32 minutes.

I want to see some Sharife Cooper minutes tonight

Cooper had some kind of knee injury last night in the Charge game in the 3rd period and went off. He was able to come back in the 4th after receiving treatment, but he could be hobbled a bit today.

Bates also had a bit of an off night. Went 1-9 from the 3 pt line.

Wow - eight players available not counting the G-league guys. This does not bode well for a win. We really didn't need Thompson to get himself suspended.

Walker is not on the injury report for Brooklyn; he had 20 points in 25 minutes in his only game against the Cavs this year.

We have to play Phoenix tomorrow so being short-handed for tonight's game is not good.

The good news is the Knicks play Philly so one of them will lose and Milwaukee plays at the LA Clippers.

Okey dokey! So we have 8 players plus our two-way G players. Despite this, we'll win. I expect us to spam Garland and Allen PNR, with 3-point shooting from Okoro, Niang, Merrill, and Garland. I expect to see a lot of Craig. Jones might get 15 minutes. 65% chance of winning.

112-103 Cleveland. If we're shooting well from three, it could be 20 points more to our score.

Our 8 are still better than the best 8 Brooklyn will throw out there tonight. Plus, we're at home and they're coming off a game last night. No excuses.
