We need to pluck some division rivals and murder two neognathae with one geode.

Really hope this thread sees some action…3/15/23 can’t get here soon enough…

I hope to hear about contract restructures between now and March 15th. The three no-brainers are Watson, Bitonio and Teller. They have all been treated extremely well by the front office financially and stand to gain a lot personally with an influx of talent.

Priorities will stand with patching the holes on defense, but dangling a veteran receiver signing would make their restructures more directly in their benefit.

I'm also interested in seeing what comes of the Lamar situation. I just love that Watson's deal poisoned those Baltimore waters.

It's freaking time for the Ravens and Steelers to have trash at the QB position. I know they're too well coached but I would love to see a 4-13 season from one of them... god that would almost feel better than the Browns reaching the playoffs.

I’d be very surprised if he’s not franchised. They’re not letting him walk for nothing.

Jackson may become a severely annoyed QB when they franchise him.
Severely annoyed QB's might miss a lot of time with nagging injuries.

i don’t think he will miss games due to nagging injuries but just be him for a moment: you want a long-term deal, the Browns gave $230M *guaranteed* to a player off of a 2 year vacation. Murray got the same figure with $160M guaranteed. You have been a Pro Bowler, your team leads the NFL in explosive runs, and you are a legit threat to pick up a first down on 3 & 15 with your arm and your legs. Obviously Mahomes got paid. You ask for the long-term deal somewhere around Watson and you get $250M offered with $133M guaranteed.
If you exclusive tag him, you kick the cam at $45M this year. Doesn’t solve much. If you dangle him, it’s $32M but the draft compensation of 2 FRPs is less than the Browns paid, and someone will likely take the bait.
My point is if he gets franchised, it’s on the way to it being over. Maybe I am wrong but it seems the optics will be interpreted as betrayal.
This is from an outsider’s perspective, but I like where this is headed.

If I was the giants I would be looking to work out a deal with Baltimore long before I paid Jones what he thinks he is worth.

Yes! So they can’t really do the smaller tag bc someone will sign him for more. So then if they do the larger tag, they handcuff him for a year but probably piss him off a bit. Ofc if they sign him for $200M guaranteed, there’s a big risk to that as well.

I really want Baltimore to crumble. So bad.

Usually when we see players traded because their current team doesn't want to pay them, the new team has a brand new contract agreed upon or it is on the one yard line.

I would imagine Lamar Jackson not having an agent would complicate matters being that he would have to be the one negotiating behind the scenes, if that is even allowed. But I'm sure Baltimore would be communicating with any interested teams on Lamar's contract expectations.
