2023 Guardians Spring Training Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not too worried right now with those two since they were never, in my mind, in the cards for 23 period at the big league level.
Espino has some serious red flags if he has another season where he barely pitches due to injury. His value on the market is already lower today than it was last year. He needs to pitch this year and avoid long term shutdowns otherwise I would def get worried as organization. He is missing valuable time to develop his craft. Just like anything in life when you have to take a ton of time off your ability to do something goes south until you are able to get back into your work.

I do not think his "Market Value" matters at all. At this point, just have to get him pitching. Looks like a year off to me

They tried this with Rosario last year with bad results.
Amed didn't get many reps there. With Arias/Freeman we have 2 guys who can potentially be in this role for a long time to come. This will be treated as a serious development goal. Especially for Freeman, if somehow his bat DOES play (I saw somewhere he came back stronger) then maybe OF is the place with the wealth of MIF talent we have. If you have Rocchio and Gimenez and Freeman and you want to get all 3 in the lineup, it's pretty clear which one you stick in the OF.

I'll be curious to see how much actual time Arias and Freeman get in the OF. Arias should be able to handle it/maybe even be good at at it, but it's hard not seeing Freeman as a LF only type.

I agree with you sorta due to Freeman's underwhelming arm but I can see either Freeman or Arias playing either corner OF and Freeman has a good reputation for baseball savviness which I think can go along way if he can be a mini Kwan. Both have good enough speed at 28.1 (Freeman) and 28.0 (Arias) which is slower than Kwan (28.4) and faster than Brennan (27.4) who people actually want to throw in CF for some reason. With Freeman I actually see more CF upside in that he would maybe be able to play it passably in enough time. Not sure I can say the same for Arias. My personal theory is that there's just an innate ability to track balls that correlates with being a disciplined contact hitter and being a good outfielder. See: Kwan and Straw, who both have great contact rates and know how to read a ball in the air like very few others. This isn't always the case but I like Freeman's chances. Arias I personally like a lot more in the left side of the infield and using him in the OF seems like a bit of wasted talent.

Arias got some time last season out there and I am sure Freeman would be alright at the end of the day. I don't either of them will be that great at it, but if they can be at least average out there, it really adds a flexibility that we currently need

I know Tito likes flexibility, but I just hate it when they have a player at one position for years in his MiLB career, and then when they get close to an opportunity in the bigs, they ask him to move. That's gotta play with their mind.

Say what you want about Amed, but when they asked him to play CF, he tried, he didn't bitch publicly. But that was a bad idea. I think Arias is a SS. Leave him there.

I'll be curious to see if Kwan gets a fair amount of reps in CF this spring.

Tyler Freeman... He has as they say "filled out"... Is there any real power on tap???
