2023 Guardians Spring Training Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lots of late ST news...

Forearm tightness is not good news. The question is whether its bad news.

Three catchers? Big surprise, but makes some sense. The question is the cost to the 40 man. The FO has hinted that a trade is possible, which may put this move into focus.

Extension talks with Ameds agent? If it happens, this forum will erupt....lol. A lot of focus would center on numerous prospects 'not getting an opportunity', but if prospects are really good enough, they get an opportunity somewhere. Consider that if the middle of the Guards defense was set for three years, a lot of those MIF prospects could be used to acquire a major addition...or additions.

The next several days are gonna be filled with interesting news.

One of 'em gotta be an odds-on DFA candidate by May.

He’s out there.

  • Shortly after alerting him that he would not make their Opening Day roster, the White Sox announced that they had released right-hander Bryan Shaw from his minor league deal with the club. The veteran Shaw sports a 3.92 ERA in 714 2/3 innings of work during his career and is now poised to look for another club interested in his services for his age-35 season. Shaw made a strong case for himself this spring, pitching to a 1.08 ERA in 8 1/3 innings during camp.

Considering the hits to the bullpen depth already (Andrew A, Nick M, others) I would sign Shaw for AAA depth in Columbus where he can also serve as mentor/ coach for those getting ready for the next step

Everything I have seen said triceps, not forearm. Forearm tightness scares me because it seems to frequently lead to TJS. Triceps is different and, hopefully, minor. But I could be completely off base on everything. Someone please correct me if so.

One said report said forearm, another side triceps...

Either way, we all hope it's super minor, but we have to be prepared though to find someone to take some of his innings...

Edit:

One said right arm tightness and the other said triceps, so it looks like it's triceps and not forearm, which is a good thing!

Sure. Let's clear another roster spot for Shaw. Can he catch too?

Ok.... Which one of you Yahoo's had 'Triston MacKenzie blows out his elbow in spring training' on their bold predictions??

Let's hope his forearm and elbow are fine. Please, none of that talk. All I've seen is triceps.

Just looked at the schedule cause I was curious about what we would do without TMac.

7 games in a row from Thursday season opener in Seattle to Wednesday before a day off with the home opener on Friday. If TMac isn't able to pitch we'll either have to use someone else as a starter (Gaddis, likely) or do a bullpen game (IMO not likely).

S1, S2, S3, S4, S5, S1, S2
Day off

Hopefully he'd at least be ready to go again by the 3rd bunch of games, which would mean the 4th time through the rotation. The 2nd and 3rd trip through the rotation could have the 5th slot skipped without putting anyone on 3 days rest. So it's not a terrible time to lose someone for a bit, if it comes for that. Just hoping it's not more than a bit, and that he's able to get that control back too.

Agree.. a bullpen game in Oakland Monday would make the most sense.. This time of year, as the SP's are ramping up to achieve triple digit in pitches per outing.. having a short leash aka, opener to three or four innings/75 pitches would be the best use of the arms at the ML level.. The MiLB camp will still be going strong.. so, no real disruption other than a spot start or two at the ML level before the actual MiLB season gets underway..
