2023 Season | Series #40 | Tigers @ Guardians | Aug. 17-20, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
As a kid, I loved double headers. I loved getting to see two games for the price of one at the old Cleveland Stadium. I was also there for some huge crowds 55,000-75,000. Great memories.

Me too. My buddy and I could take the bus from Maple Heights to the square, walk across the bridge and watch a game, or two. Usually about 1/10th of that number in attendance though.

With last night's game being pushed to today the Guardians decided to switch the order so that Gavin Williams starts game 1 against Skubal while Curry goes against Manning in the second game. Detroit kept their pitchers in the original order, although they could still switch them today if they want to.

I assume Tito understands that Skubal is a better pitcher than Manning and he's also left-handed, so he wants our best going against their best. He wants to win both games.

So it looks like another start for Williams where he gets no run support. At least he's used to it by now.

Bo Naylor is 3-for-30 in August. He's really slumping. Gallagher is 1-for-13 and Fry is on the IL. We're back to getting zero production from our catchers.

Laureano is hitting .185/.501 since coming over. He's not exactly making a case for being part of this team's future.

Brennan and Arias are hitting .152 and .158 in August. Only 31 games left and we're 4.5 games behind the Twins. We need every hand on deck as each game becomes more and more important. This is the time of year when players make their case for next season.

Oscar is hitting .304/.775 in August. Gimenez leads the team at .326/.957. Rocchio is making a statement at .316/.763. Straw is coming on at .290/.740. But Kwan and Jose are hitting .222 and .225. We need them to get going immediately.

We have to take 3 of 4 from Detroit at home and a sweep would be better. I don't know if we have the hitting to do that with Josh Naylor out and Jose and Kwan having a down month.

To be fair, Kwan started August 3-for-27 but then had nine hits in five games. He's become much more aggressive at the plate. He has two walks in 54 at-bats in August.

Bo has over an 80% contact rate this year. Keep up the faith that he'll start making more solid contact.
Young Bo has to keep playing.. 4, 5 and or 6 games each week.. he has to be made of iron.. It's a path to being a ML catcher.... If he hits, too.. all that much better.. The lack of focus on catching the ball in his last game, especially the Arias throw.. is a clear sign he wasn't focused on the fundamental "catch the ball"... The Kwan throw that he missed.. was an experience failure.. he needed to MOVE HIS FEET, NOT HIS ARM to catch that ball.. He may have been blown up by the runner.. but his first fundamental requirement is to "catch the ball".. it's in his TITLE !!..

They seem pretty committed to getting Freeman, Arias and Rocchio playing time..

Pretty sure this is Oscar's 1st MLB action in LF... fingers crossed.

How can he be worse???? oh yeah.. the wall..

Is Gimenez hurt? Sitting for the second game in a row

I know he was limping in one of the games against Tampa, but he stayed in the game and then played the series ender and the first game against Cinci.

I was wondering the same.
