Tying themselves longterm to a DH/1B who hasn't exactly been the Paragon of health, especially with them set to draft would be pretty foolish.

The draft now that has moved on from Kurtz to Bazzana or Condon (LF) doesn't really affect 1st anymore. Whether they sign Naylor or not, it shows the direction of this season (being 2024/25 as the last seasons of arb for him). If he is not signed, might as well trade him at deadline. Yet, for the energy that he brings to this team, I can see a reasonably cheaper contract (so he can play with Bo and factoring in injury history even though the OF collision was a fluke) as a win/win for each side.

I'm not referring to whoever they draft (which is likely Bazzana, since the club loves up the middle players). This club has one of the smallest budgets in baseball. 1B is the RB of baseball, if they aren't a superstar then the good ones are basically interchangeable. They also have shorter effective periods, and in Josh's case, a ton of time missed in his career with injuries, including a very serious leg injury.

I'm all for Josh getting paid; I'm all for keeping the bros together. I love that storyline and that kind of stuff is what keeps me watching a sport that has increasingly lost touch with its fanbase. But I also know how the Gs operate. When you play PovertyBall/BallinOnABudget like the Gs do, you cant be spending long-term contracts on what are arguably the two easiest positions to fill with productive bats (1B and DH), either as cost controlled pre arb players or vets on 1 year deals.

Of all the recent trades... J.C Mejia for David Fry seems to have worked out pretty well.
Guardians usually win on trades. This is just another example, albeit a smaller one.

The Lindor trade imo is a wash. Him eventually leaving + Gimenez makes it even. Still young, but Greene & Wolf have not panned out. Rosario netted us Thor who was just an innings eater to preserve the rookies.

Don't disagree, 2 sub points:
1. Bazzana or Kurtz will have zero effect on Naylor/Manzardo situation, as both can play infield or outfield
2. Given the amount of sweat equity they put in to his growth + the attitude he brings + being 1 of power bats they have, I think keeping Josh is a good bet to make. JMO

Which is why Manzardo was sent to Columbus, oh wait.......they didn't sign anyone for 1B/DH.

They have abandoned focusing only on "up the middle players" because now they lack one of the most valuable commodities in MLB by doing so. If Condon is performing he'll be the pick. That or they're not as smart as I give them credit for.

Unless they think there is something about his approach that won't translate, Condon does seem to be the obvious guy. RH power bat that can play corner IF or OF. Made to order.

So based on recent trends, it's safe to assume

1.) Kwan is leadoff
2.) Rocchio is in the 9 hole
3.) Jose will bat 2nd or 3rd
4.) Naylor most likely batting 4th
5.) Gimenez will bat 2nd or 6ish

Is this one on MLB.tv too I hope? I couldn't stay up for last night.

I should say that Bazzana and a couple others wouldn't be bad picks as they are crazy talented as well, but like you said Condon is made to order.
